Tax System Grrrrrrrr

Just got a tax demand for £3000 which was a surprise but probably OK, but we'll see what our pleading letter brings.

What really bugs me is that they sent the notification out Second Class Mail so by the time it got to the house I owe an additional £6 in interest

I hate doing my annual return, to be told we calculate you owe us (Usually about £150)


Then again a few years back, I got a rebate of £1800, which I had been arguing for, for about 2 years. In the end they conceeded I was right but got their revenge by then putting me on annual returns even though I am PAYE.

They love their annual returns. Once they get their claws into you they never let go...

Used to work for a small company that amongst other things were accountants so they should have known better. They didn't notify the IR that I had a company car and as a result of a completely innocent query I made a year or so later I got clobbered for a massive tax hike to make up the loss AND about three years of tax returns. Fair enough they would have found out sooner or later but it still sucked big time.

I have just had a demand for £332 to pay back on the tax credit system

Luckily, my Dad was a Tax Inspector and he tells me that the system used to calculate the annual credit is cr*p and the Government knows it! If all the info I supplied last year that was used to calculate the amount owed was correct, (course it was!) then the system is at fault. I have written to them explaining this and that I will not pay the amount "owing"

Lets wait and see.....
