Default Using an intercom with a Respro mask

Does anyone know how well an intercom (hopefully VOX) will work if also wearing a Respro mask (a pollution filter).

You can hear someone talking with it on, but it is a bit muffled, I have no idea how an intercom will deal with it.

Any (helpful! ) comments welcome.

No idea, but if you intend on using VOX make sure you pay out for a high end intercom system.

Wind noise is a bugger for tripping VOX so you'd never be able to talk anyway. Baring that in mind, since you're using a respro mask, I assume you ride in a city, so it might not be much of a consideration about wind noise, but a consideration non-the-less.

Is it the Foggy respro bike mask? If so, it's not a pollution filter, just a fog-prevention thing- it's got a big hole in the bottom!

I said HELPFUL comments

I dont want to spend £150 on an intercom only to find it will not work properly with the mask, otherwise I would be more than happy to try it and let you know

Depends on the quality of the intercom and whether the vox settings are adjustable - on the basis that you have already stated that someone talking through the mask sounds 'muffled', then it ain't going to get any better no matter how good the intercom is.

Hehe - hence the smily, and as you smilied me back.....

I was guessing that on the basis that the original post was > 5 minutes old, and the fact that people had thought you meant a standard "foggy" non respirator that you were the trailblazer on this technology.

How about a throat-mike set up - or something inside the respirator - it should mask wind noise, if you can get a mic small enough........

Most of the mics are prtty small, just stanley a slit in the respro and feed the mic in, that way your not comprimising the mask THAT much and you'll have a wind shielded mic

Cheers David,

I did think about a throat mike, but was worried about yet more cost.......

I did think about using the std mike inside the mask but I was not sure if it would make it too close to the mouth (eg probably eating it the whole time ) and therefore not work properly......

I guess that the type of person how would use an intercom (usually tourers?) would not really have to wear a pollution mask as well (usually commuters?), I cannot see the point of touring in a city
