Default Help???? another Puppy problem.

Right peep's I need to see if you can help me with a problem

As you all know i got a puppy ( who is now aged nearly 5 months) and we have now had him 3 weeks, he has settled in really well and is doing brill with training him etc but I have got a problem with him - when I go out during the day he barks constantly until I come back.

He has one of the big cages that he sleeps in and he doesn't mind going in it, he sleeps in it at night - no problem but if I put him in it and go out during the day he just barks and barks.

He is very food orientated so I have tried giving him a hide chew so that he has something to do while I am out but when I get home he hasn't touched it as he hasn't stopped barking.
He is quite a bit of a nervous dog so I don't want to smack him and make things worse.
I can go out during the day and leave him in the house with either of the kids or Dave and he doesn't bother, it is as if he doesn't want to be on his own but what I can't understand is that he is no bother at night when he is on his own.

I have also tried leaving the radio on when I go out, I have also put my jumper in his bed.

If I go out of the room he will sometimes lie behind the door until i come back but he doesn't do this all the time!

Any ideas??

Jo.

My dog was like that when she was little.. it had to sleep in the front room. Cried when we left her all. Eventuly she grew out of it by herself, also she sleeps in conservatory instead and she's fine, but yeah i think 600+'s post takes care of it.

Never had to house train her either though thats countered by constant sock eating and throwing up

we read a good book called dog listener by i think gill furnell no point in hitting the dog it will just associate you coming in with being hit. try to keep relaxed yea really easy. our puppy gets worked up when on the lead and may chase cars but has not been given the chance.

Went out to school this morning and left him, was out for half an hour!

What he hadn't realised was that Dave was still in bed and was listening to see what he would do.

I gave him a chew as I left and told him to lie down.

Dave said he was quiet for a bit (that was until he had eaten it lol) then he started the odd bark and then went into the full on stuff for about 15 mins then calmed down and back to the odd bark until he heard me open the gate and he was off again.

When I came in I totally ignored him and it was the hardest thing to do as he was running around me pleased to see me - so we will carry on with the ignore him bit for a while when I come in and see if that helps.
