Default New SV650s owner, just have afew questions

Hello everybody,

I just bought a 02' SV650s and am loving it. I just had a couple of questions:

Anything specific I should look out for on these particular bikes?

I need new tires, any reccommendations?

The only thing I don't like about the bike so far ( and it's minor ) is the stock exhaust note. SO I was looking for some reccommendations on aftermarket exhaust. Not so much for horsepower gains ( although thats ok ) but more for a meaner sound. Also, I don't really want to have to screw around with jetting if neccessary.

This appears to be a great resource for information on this bike and I will be digging deeper into it, but I live in Seattle so i am trying to maximze my riding time before the rain hits

Thnaks,
Micah

Hi mate, welcome.

Tyres - Meh, I've never had any problems with any, so I go with what is cheapest generally. Will get remoulds next time I need some. People seem to rate the z something or others though. Very helpful I know but do a search or wait 5 minutes, answers will come.

Re: Exhuast - Any really. Any. You won't be disappointed by the sound of any if you've only used the standard exhaust.

Metzler Z6's are the only way to go.

Welcom to the MADHOUSE... my turn!

There's a whole Tyres section to the forum, but for most use people seem to rate:
Metzler Z6 Roadtec
Pirelli Diablo Strada (Effectivly the same tyre as Z6)
Continental Road Attack

Just about any can will do you well but a removable baffle is a good point as you won't need to refit the stock exhaust to pass an MOT Also note for the SV you need to cut the standard exhaust to fit a new can on the end as it doesn't unbolt anywhere convienient

itseems as if the regulater/rectifier can be a bit of a problem on sv this will cause a flat battery but you will not know untill its too late,

Z6 for tyres. Exhausts, I'm currently looking around myself...

hovi5, Reg./Rect. units fail on all bikes, and are generally expensive to get replaced. That's one reason I bought a K6 with it's 2year unlimited milage warranty (on condition that you get it serviced constantly).

Do they have MOTs in Seattle??

Bridgestone BT020 for the Rear, hard in the centre, soft on the edges. Good for commuting.

Enjoy the bike!

Hi and welcome to the forum
The cam chain tentioners are prone to fail or stick usually denoted by a rattlie engine not hard to fix though!!! As for tyres I'm running Dunlop Quallifiers And a Scorpion oval end can!!!

Tires - Michelin Pilot Powers. They stick like glue. I've got a Pilot Race H2 on the rear and a regular Pilot Power on the front. The handling will be improved drastically from the stock sport-touring tires.

BTW, the only reason I have a Pilot Race on the rear is because I found one for $80 inc. shipping on ebay brand new, the regular pilot pwers are super sticky and plenty for the road.
