Default You Have To Laugh.

Pete has been after another set of leathers for a while, and since I got my Dainese at the BMF he's been even more keen. Anyway, we saw a really nice-looking Dainese set on e bay last week, the perfect size and colour, so watched them carefully. The auction was due to end at 1.00pm on Sunday, so at twenty to I put in a bid of the maximum amount we were willing to spend on them. Five minutes later we were outbid.

As he had now seriously got his 'I need new leathers' head on, I suggested we scooted over to Leicester to Hein Gericke, Planet Bikes and MCA to see if we could find him a decent pair in the sales. PC off, and off we went.

Planet Bikes had nothing. Hein Gericke had some Alpinestars two piece in the sale, and at £400 were within our price range. They looked pretty good, but we decided to wait and check MCA first as they had Dainese in the sale and they were what Pete really wanted. So off we toddled to MCA to find that the sale suits were either too big, too small or just the wrong colour. The salesman then showed us some new Dainese suits just in, and when Pete tried them on they were perfect, but way out of our price range. We were just getting ready to leave when the salesman came back to tell us that as they had two sets in Pete's size the owner would therefore let us have the new suit for the same price that the sales suit had been

So, off we toddled home really pleased with our purchase. Kettle on, PC on, e mail from e bay. The bid that had outbid us had been retracted...............we'd won the Dainese leathers

Well, after the initial shock we just fell about laughing. We also agreed that we had to honour our bid, after all, we could always just put them back on e bay, so we contacted the vendor who turned out to be a really nice guy. He only lived in Birmingham so we suggested that we could pop over to collect them, to which he said that he was a rep, would be out our way on Wednesday and would be happy to deliver them. This he duly did, and they really are a fantastic set of leathers. Perfect condition, hardly worn, and fit Pete like they were made for him. So he now has two sets of leathers.

And the moral of this story is...................the game isn't over til the fat lady sings (or the e bay auction has ACTUALLY ended )

Thats the kind of luck I get!

You could always take the leathers back to the shop and get a refund, spend the money on some other nice things

Sorry to say it, but don't simply bid and hope. Snipe. I usually try to bid about 2 seconds before the end of the auction. Clock synced using NTP in one window. about a minute before end of auction decide how much and bid. then when confm button comes up wait till about 2 secs before end and confirm.

TBH during this time I usually have a 3rd widow open on the same item and keep refreshing to to see what is happening on that last minute

Pah! Where's the fun in actually WINNING auctions? Or not losing auctions by being sniped every time?

I like the disappointment...
