Erm soz to pick up on this again guys.
Took Pod's advice to drain carbs ... hmmm ... much cussing etc ... was able to do rear carb without too much fuss while carbs in situ, but I am buggered if I can access the front one without taking the carbs out the frame, which I didn't have time to do last night. So I drained the rear carb, but wasn't able to check for water presence, as I didn't capture the contents, just let them p*ss on to the floor (warning ... do not smoke in my garage!!) ![]() Anyway, bike didn't stutter this morning. but that could have just been good fortune. Any tips from any learned people out there on how best to access front carb for drain, with as little complications as poss. Thanks again Tony ![]() PS I also learned yesterday that water is heavier than petrol, hence it sits at bottom of float bowl ... I love new knowledge (though I suspect loads on the site already knew this!!). Oh and also, fuel at garages often contains water. ![]() |

You can do the front carb in situ, you just need a short legged allen key. Sounds like your key might be a touch too long.

When I did mine I had to move a pipe / cable out of the way before I could access the drain bolt. Make sure that you have given yourself as much access as possible (I didn't undo anything, just moved it out of the way)
I also swore a lot during the process... Good luck, Stu |

Thanks chaps!
![]() Since I have done the rear one, the problem hasn't recurred, so far so good. I will attempt to drain them both again in two weeks when I will be off work for a week and will have more time to swear, cuss and generally wonder why I started the job in the first place!! ![]() Also will be changing oil and plugs then too. ![]() And .. this month marks my 3rd anniversary of my 'relationship' with the SV. Wouldn't mind a different bike but if I do buy another, I will be keeping the SV for commuting ... ![]() It has its faults, but I have learned to love it! Tony in torrentially rained on East Lancashire. (Fenda Extenda most important mod due to extensive Motorway wetness) |
