Default New Member with new 2005 SV650s K5

On Saturday I bought a black 2005 sv650s from Steve Jordan Motorcycles in Great Bookham, Surrey.
Whoever owned it before put a devil exhaust on it and had it re-mpped, K&N filter, red wheel tape, tail tidy, crash bungs. I got the lower fairing, seat cowl an fender extender for it and it looks great.
Rode it Saturday and Sunday and think its a great bike. I wanted a bike for commuting so I didn't have to use my Aprilia Mille RSVR so wasn't really looking for such a tricked up sporty bike.
Soon as I saw it in the shop I had to have it!

If its of any interest I can do a comparison with the Aprilia Mille if anyone is considering changing to that.

Couple of questions if anyone cares to answer. Whats the normal running temperature of these bikes?

I've read a lot of reviews on these bikes and they have all been pretty positive.
Anything I need to be aware of which may be considered out of the ordinary?

Welcome to the site, and nice getting in that you own a Milie

Dont know, as i have one of the better curvey models that doesnt need a temp guage, but im sure someone will be a long in a while with the answer.

Welcome mate,

I own a K6 naked and temp is around 80-90 Celcious depending on type of riding and weather.

In traffic is has gone up to 94 but that was it.

Things to look at is keep an eye on the oil level always! A few people have had problems with bikes seizing but not that many. 2secs check all it is and it might save you a lot

Enjoy!

Welcome to the site mate, I saw that bike in the showroom, the tyres looked slightly melted (track day use). It's a very nice looking bike (but then I'm biased as I have a black K5 as well). Have fun on it.

I guess you're local so take a look in the Guildford Massive section for meets and rideouts.

Hiya, glad you like it!.

Normal riding temp can be anything from 85oc-95oc dependant on how warm it is outside at the time. In traffic they can get upto just over 100oc - you should hear the fan cut in about 104oc i think.

My racebike runs constant at 91oc...funnily enough with the rad half taped up it runs at 86oc constant ..something to do with making the air flow more efficient - only found out by accident after forgetting to remove the tape after testing the bike without the thermostat (wouldnt get above 75oc! without it)

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the oil though I don't expect them to lose much.
