GSXR 600 K7 would U wouldn't U - SV650.org

Hi,
My partner has a kaw Z750 and I had the svs650 now got a Kaw ER6N he has got a price to change to the new GSXR K7. I sat on it and couldn't beleive how low + light it is so fits me. So we had the brain wave of just having 1 bike as I use to go to work and at w/e I usually go pillion anyway so we will have more space save on 1 insurance etc. But is it a leap too big for me to handle ? its a awesome looking bike. The beauty about my ER6N it is so easy to ride and not intimidating at all and I don't think I am a **** hot rider I would still consder myself to be a novice but are they easy to ride as well ? I know its how you ride them but can't decide what would be best ?? He's wanting to put a deposit down tomorrow.

I would assume it to be rather more like my R6 than an ER6n. What that means is it's p*ss easy to ride - light and sharp, does exactly what you tell it, when you tell it to do it. The thing with the 600 supersports is they have relatively little power down low in the rev range, so as long as you keep the revs down below about 7 or 8k it won't run away with you - so, no need to be scared of it! They really are very easy to ride! And as for the braking...

And oh boy... when you give it some beans... you'll find out for yourself on the first couple of rides, but be careful overtaking as you'll find you pick up speed far more quickly than you're used to, and have to use those superb brakes to drop back into the traffic.

Go for it - you won't regret it for a minute!

Umh...

I rode a K6 GSXR 600 last week, I guess I'm lucky I still own an SV and I also own a GSXR-750 K5 to.

Personally speaking, I found the K6 600 easy to ride, Its certainly IMHO more nimble, lighter and more responsive than any SV I've ridden. The steerin and brakes are far superior IMHO, turn the bars look through the corner, you can place the bike exactly where you want, wind the throttle on and through the corner your gone.

I would say if you havent go get a proper test ride as opposed to sitting on it. Then you can make your own mind up, nobody can tell you how the bike is going to feel. Only you can do this.

I really was surprised about the low down pull., the GSXR-600 made reasonable power from 4000rpm upwards and really came on song when 6000rpm was achieved, it had a real sweet spot from 8000rpm upwards. No IMHO lack of midrange, the only thing I really noticed was a lack of engine braking compared to the SV and my GSXR-750.

I didnt find it intimidating at all, in fact it made me feel confident to push the bike into corners and to ride it hard. If you feel comfy on the bike and can get your feet down etc etc, then personally I'd say go for it. I'd certainly say go for it. Again IMHO I'd say you are going to have more room to grow into the GSXR-600 than an SV TBH. I'd certainly say you wont get as bored with the GSXR as you will with the SV.

A test ride IMHO will answer any questions you have in your head, and thats the only way you are going to find out if you like it or not.

You will absolutely love it. One thing you need to get used to is the abscence of engine braking compared to your er6n. You'll be using the brakes a lot more too.

OK I sort of tend to agree with mburnstead. The 600 is very light, roughly the same weight as my SV was. It's also a cracking looking bike with a chassis and brakes that are also used on the gixer 750 so they should be able to get you out of trouble.

As for two up riding, I think your test ride has to cover this also, the rear seat is small and with a super sports bike you'll be sitting in the air so not only do you get a good view but the full wind blast also. I've not ridden the 600 BTW so cannot comment too much on the engine.

Suspension wise the mags all love it, again not ridden the K7 600.

To answer the question "GSXR 600 K7 would U wouldn't U" err... no only cos I just got the gixer I always wanted.

Just a thought its probably more desireable to thiefs then your current commuter. usual rules apply tho i'm sure you take the same precautions on your kawa.

You can't really compare an SV to a GSX-R600, they are very different machines. I would say the GSX-R is lighter and more nimble, I'm only 5.1" and I can put both feet (on tiptoes) down on a standard setup which I certainly couldn't do on a SV.

I find mine surprisingly comfortable and I use it for commuting (motorway and town work) and for fun. I wouldn't say its too intimidating, yes you could easily get into trouble if you don't have a good control over your right hand but then it gives the ability to quickly get out of trouble too.

I would suggest organising a test ride and seeing if you like it.

I would say I wouldn't be keen to go pillion on it, the pillion seat looks too small and high to me.

I changed from the SV to a gsxr600 k6 and absolutely love the bike. Braking and handling are excellent, and IMO it's as much power as you need on the road, with no lack of mid range either. Be warned though you will find youself doing silly speeds on motorways, etc!

It also has a lot more engine braking than you'd think, in fact i don't really find myself braking much more than i did on the sv, which is good as that was one of the things that i thought i'd miss most about the twin.

However as a pillion bike it is really not good at all, the pegs keep wanting to fold up and i wouldn't want to spend much time on the back tbh - and that's from someone who's spent a lot of time on the back of bikes. IMO most of the latest sports models are just way too focused in that respect. Def recommend taking a test ride as pillion before making a decision to get the gixxer.
