Wannabe owner here, who is on restricted licence until July 2007.
I'm looking round for a SV650S which i will have to get restricted for a few months. I've phoned a couple of bike shops who have told me that i can ony get a restictor kit from suzuki and that it needs to be fitted by a dealer/mechanic, with paperwork sent to police i.e. i am not allowed to fit it myself! Is this correct? I may not be a MotoGP pit mechanic but i am able to turn my hand to most things. If i have to pay labour to get a kit fitted so be it, but if i can buy the kit myself and install it im sure it would save a few quid. What should i expect to pay for a restrictor kit and where does one buy one from? Thanks for any help Jim |

I am from Virgina USA and i was wondering is that what they do to you when you get in trouble in the UK because arround here i have never heared of such a thing. In VA they arent supose to chase you over 100 MPH and in Tennessee where I am going to school the cops cant chase you no matter what. But as to your question i dont know anything about it. sorry

Got my old 99 curvy SV restricted - cost £100 flat fee at George Whites, and they give you a certificate with it too. Apparently because they are a dealer they have to charge this amount, which I suppose wasn't too bad...
The dealer was the Suzuki one, but I think they have a few sites around the UK. You can probably buy the bits on eBay, but the certificate would need to be completed for your bike, so best get a dealer to do it. Hope this helped ![]() |

![]() **EDIT** Oh, and Jimbo, you can normally find second hand SVs around for sale that are already restricted - buy it, use it, when it comes to derestrict time just sell it and get a non-restricted one, saves all the hassle imo. |

I got my restriction kit for a fiver off this forum. So did phantomtek funnily enough.
Infact, all the restriction kit is two small washers that fit inbetween the carbs and engine to restrict the air/fuel mixture. They have a specific sized hole in them. You could probably make them up if you wanted. Or I could make them up....hmmm.... If it's an FI bike, restricted ECU's go for quite cheap on ebay too! Theyre only £100 in the first place. |

I need a restriction kit. Do i really not need a certificate to prove it's restricted?
I'd love to save myself the best part of £100!! Matt |

Yea, thats what i thought. Have a certificate to wip out when the pigs pull me and see my lisence entitles me to 33bhp
"why officer, it is...here's a peice of paper stating so" Don't see how it'll do much, but its better than my own word - i do wear hoodies you know! Alf's Motorcycles are asking £150 i think to restrict my bike ![]() Matt |
