Default High vis opinions wanted (not jackets/overalls)

OK, so following from some of the comments in the high vis section, I have an idea, and decided I'd put it before the wisdom of the .org before I go anywhere near implimenting it, as it's a litteral minefield.

The idea is to add some wiring thus:
Wire from the dip switch to an AND logic gate. Also wire from the PASS switch to this logic gate. When 'Dip' is set to full beam AND the PASS light is pressed, the AND gate is active.
Next, use an electrical timer to alternate between two connections. This timer would only be used when the AND gate gives it power.
These two connections run to 85,86 terminals on a bosch style relay and open the switch when active (as opposed to closing it & activating that wire).
The NC terminals on these relays are then connected up to the high beam bulbs.

The effect would be that when the dip switch was set to high beam, and the PASS button held, it would cut out one high beam (leaving the sidelight still on) on one side. The timer 'ticks' and this is change to the other side.

The aim of this proposed 'mod' is to get car drivers to see bikes easier, since most (not all) car drivers seem to be blind at times.

Also, yes, I know what I'm implying which is why I'm wording things very carefully (for the good of the forum).

Opinions please before I land myself in what could be a lot of more than luke warm water

Why not just flick your PASS switch like a demented hun in a fokker over France in 1918?

I deffo like the alternating side to side flash.
But think that is sailing a little too close to the wind of impersonating something or other

I want white strobe lights inside my headlight reflectors that will alternate from side to side but would leave the dipped headlights on constantly so will hopefully be seen, but not mistaken for something I'm not.
(help with wiring most definetely appreciated once acquired)

Why dont you make it easier for the Judicial System and fit a combination of blue and white LED's into the side-light holders and have them flash as well.

Then they WOULD know to throw the book at you

Mind you I saw a LOT if trucks with blue LED's on the front of them last week

Heard of EL Wire?

Stick it onto your jacket. Then make that flash with a second switch on the bar that also makes some bleepy noise (not the regular horn).

Stu, drop me a message when you get the strobes, I'm also interested in this idea, and so I'll definately give you a hand with wiring if you need it.

Soulkiss, there's always one that's negative isn't there? :P I had actually thought about replacing the park lights (who uses them anyway) with some ultra-bright LEDs, the colour of which I won't detail. But I figured that was a little too much.

Thor, EL wire is an interesting proposition, but with the current light levels when I'm commuting, I'm constantly in high-vis anyway. I was also wrecking my head thinking of where I could buy a decent waterproofed switch that I could bar mount. Your solution doesn't seem to offer any advice down that road, but something worth thinking about I suppose

Keep those opinions coming (be those positive or negative) folks

Sorry if it seemed negative - was only pointing out that if you were going to go THAT far you might as well go all the way - ie paint the front of your fairing white :P

Sounds like a fun idea, but maybe a little too way out.

Personally I am seriously considering slaving my parking lights to the indicators and fitting orange bulbs/LEDs to then adding flush mounting indicators instead fo stalks

Just jesting about the negativity

Not interested in painting white, but I have thought about buying a pan european for commuting and keeping the SV for pleasure riding.

I know it's a little close to the mark, but I'm thinking if the timing is wrong for the flash, and there's no switches added to the bars, I'm a lot less likely to draw attention to it, especially with restrained usage.

Can you imagine 'double flashing' an unmarked police car? LMAO. Talk about asking for it!
