Default Road Tax

Just say this going the wrong way up Greek street to Soho Square. He said he was removing untaxed bikes!

I know many people are in the habit of not displaying their tax discs for security reasons.

Hope no-one here got caught unawares. I've never seen one of these before. Iw as convinced it was a scam, hence the pic.

I know they can do you for not displaying a tax disc but can't they check the number plate to see if it has been taxed and thus cannot do anything but issue a ticket for not displaying... what if the disc got nicked?

typical of this country. Completely ignore laws set to protect the public and dont use the databases that are available to them to check their facts.

Just like those horror stories you hear about people who come thru the ports with loads of fags or booze and hen get their cars confiscated and crushed by anal customs bods. The law clearly says there is no limit on these items being brought in but they seems to be above the law and use their own directives instead.

Sorry but things like this really **** me off and if they even touhed my bike (which isnt displaying tax, thats in my wallet) i'd kick off in a big way!!!

Good on ya for getting the pic tho cos it could be a clever elaborate scam.

Have seen these around Covent Garden. My bike has its tax disc on and it is in date, and I had no problems with them.

Modus Operandi - walk along bike bay (having either double parked or parked illegally) checking tax discs. Any vehicle not displaying (or displaying out of date), a phone call is made to check details on some central computer or whatever. If it does have tax but not displayed then I think a warning is given, however I had got bored by this point and gone to work so I'm not sure. I don't know if they remove bikes straight away if they have no tax. Where bike ends up is a mystery.

Having just read the Westminster Council website, it seems that any vehicle not displaying a tax disc can be classified as "abandoned" and removed, although it may just get a sticker saying that no tax disc is found. So just put a colour photocopy in, or whatever. Checks are only made if no disc is found.

As said, standard of driving of said vehicles is p*ss poor.

And you trust DVLA to keep the data correctly? After losing peoples licence categories theyve now resulted in a lad being arrested for nicking his own moped recently because the datas wrong. DVLA and data do not mix well. And I wouldnt half be surprised to find a bike towed because of it.

I wouldn't put the DVLA past doing anything, especially losing or miss imputting data!

What about if they sat on your bike? I'm assuming you don't mind complete strangers putting their hairy arses on your bike... and that when you came back to your bike to ride away, you'd politely apologise for making them stand-up - even though it's your bike and they didn't ask if they could sit on it?

look i explained this to you before but maybe you'll understand it better in a written form.

I was provoding an additional security device for the peds. No one in their right mind would try and nick a bike thats got someone sitting on it would they?
Even if the person on it is a big old wimp like me
