Default Summer 2007

Either late spring or early autumn I've been told to have my final fling at this biking malarkey. I fancy doing a coastal tour of Britain in roughly 250 mile stages taking about 10 days. Very relaxed, no rush and savour our country Stopping in YH where possible and cheap B&B when not. It has been pointed out to me that I'm an old duffer[Looking at the age pole I think I'm second oldest on the site] and would I be wanting to fling my leg over a ----- ---- much longer after/if I retire

So would it be a solo trip or can I expect some company

Mind you this IS NOT written in stone

Well, I don't agree with this 'being told' anything malarky, but if you truely feel it's time to call it a day, I'd be honoured to ride with you (for some or all - too early to say) on your (apparent ) last tour.

Hopefully I'll have moved house by then and my time and more to the point, money, will be my own. If you make it autumn then we'll have had an awesome's summer's biking and will have whipped Lorna back into shape so she can come too.

Sounds like a plan. Won't be able to make all of it, but a day along part of the south coast section would be fun.

You could slum it at my gaff if it was convenient (near Portsmouth). You can make the bacon butties in the morning.

To be honest it just seems like our numbers are being taken out right ,left and centre and considering the number of miles I do in a year it worries me. Those who have had accidents, offs
whatever you want to call them are much younger than me and probably have much quicker reaction times and loads more confidence, plus it takes longer to heal when you are older. I know I am riding slower but I seem to see a lot more dangers than before and am tending to err on the side of caution, perhaps its an age thing, perhaps its self preservation

As for as being"Told to give up" it was more of a mickey take than serious and I know that Lyn would never force me to give up, but just reading all the bad news posts set me to thinking. I've been biking off and on for 44 years and ,touch wood, been very lucky as regard to injury considering the number of times I've come off---------------still time will tell as to what I do in the future, but that is how I fell now

Sounds pretting tempting, of course too far away to commit to anything atm but its a definate possibly as I keep missing those scotland trips

providing its a nice touring type of thing and not blasting around at silly speeds, not into that anymore

I know where youre coming from, this is the way my mind is working atm due to having been out of action for so long and now Ive lost so much confidence. I think you need confidence out there to stay safe.

I was out in the car this morning and the mud and crap on the roads would have filled me with horror if I'd been negotiating it on a bike!! Whereas before I would have been fine and just used the advanced skills I was learning. My thinking atm is that Im gonna wait until the better road conditions are here before I give it another bash and if I still feel the same will probably call it a day .

I might be able to set aside 2 or 3 days for some stretch or other, maybe cornish or welsh legs. If you stick right to the coasts you will go right by my front door at one point.
