Default A bit off?

Right.
I know we have been a bit accident-centric on the org of late, but, I am curious to know how many people have actually led a drop free life?
How many of you lot have never laid a bike down? I will let you away with "it just fell over as I was getting on it", but "I was doing a really slow U-turn" means you are in the book.

The poll is a bit bias, cause I left in the option I know someone somewhere who didnt drop a bike, which is a dubious one. Because, in fairness, sometimes you forget to tell people you have had a little spill. Apparently. I have been told.
But the "I know someone" option means you admit to at least one yourself , so I have that covered still.

Anyway, vote away. I be curious see?

2 offs in my 1st 2 weeks.

If I didn't EXPECT to have offs I wouldn't have spent about £1000 on protective gear for me and the bike.

I dont have crash bungs because they look good - I have them because they save my bike when it hits the ground.

Maybe people who dont drive through Central London on an almost daily basis have it different, but I usually have one event each trip where some fscker in a car tries to kill me.

This morning for example it was an idiot who came round the Chiswick roundabout on the middle lane and decided to exit into the left lane - which was where I was.

Its a fact of life, and one that I seriously considered prior to getting my license.

Only had one on the road, in 1987 turning right, wet leaves and my C50 went bouncing down the road
Those plastic leg shields make a lovely noise as they skid across the tarmac.

Been on my **** numerous times with dirt bikes etc.

This isn't me, it's my friend Rob, dismounting his 1967 Ossa Pennine in fine style.
Its such a quality pic (although a little blurry) I just had to post it.
Both Rob and the bike where relatively unscathed

On my 6 months 8000km riding experience i had 1 real off (yesterday), the kind of off that you roll over and wonder what foots are doing up there , other than that i have had the bike drooped 2 times both times under 5km/h and i have manage to stay up struggling trying to keep the bike up

1. Spectacular 50mph high-side. Hit diesel, slid, gripped, flipped. Walked away with a grazed hand and a bruised knee - bike was not so lucky!

2. Slow speed collision while filtering. Eejit turned right in front of me without looking or indicating (tired of waiting in the pesky traffic stuff) - I hit the brakes and nearly missed him, but eventually just clipped the back of him and gently toppled over. Embarassing.

Looped within a week, lowsided x2 (wet then snow)from memory on 1st one.

Lowside x2 (track then snow) and locked up front (wet) on 2nd one. (also smashed up by a mate)

3rd bike, taking out by car door into bus. (£7000 pay out from woman) Fell off in the back of a Transit after breaking down and due to a nugget of a driver . Lowside (new tyre)

4th bike, highside.

5th bike, fell off at 3mph showing off in front of the missus 1500miles from home (who is the nugget now eh? )

Thats what i can remember, and the ones that stick out.Not bad for 15yrs compared to some folk. On the road every one of them has hurt. The 3mph is the only one to leave any lasting scar/disfigurement!

Do actually have a good mate who has never even dropped a bike never mind falling off. Jammy.

Fingers crossed etc. the SV is so far unscathed!

Unfortunately there is no account of time you have been riding. Obviously there has been more opportunity for offs if you have been riding 50 years over someone who has only been riding a day ...

Perhaps some form of frequency measure to complement it will be more meaningful ... e.g if you have had 1 off and been riding 5 years you get a figure of ... 1/5 (0.2) if you have had 2 then 2/5 (0.4). 3 crashes 1 year 3/1 (3) ... so we are essentially working out crashes a year ...

If we are talking about on the road only I am 2/16 = 0.125 ... i.e. and AVERAGE of 0.125 crashes per year (or a crash every 8 years (16/2 if you prefer it that way?)) ...

This is still a little flawed as you might have had 10 offs in the first year and not crashed for 39 more and you still only get a score of 10/40 = 0.25

But probably interesting to see crashes and years riding.

I have never crashed a motocycle.

Honest.
