Morning, All the instruments packed up on my curvy yesterday, no speedo, Tacho or mileage indicator, the warning lights are all fine, the dash lights up and everything else works fine. I replaced the fuse that controls the instruments but no difference and the one there didn't appear blown either.
I've had some problems in the past with the big yellow multi-connecter in the near side fairing, I unplugged and re-plugged this a few times but it made no difference, where do I go next? I have a Cymer manual, I've not had the chance to look yet but does this have decent european wiring diagrams? Thanks Mags |

My first thoughts were a dodgy connection in the wiring somewhere, but everything affected is related to physical movement of the bike. All the electrical components work as you say.
From my understanding of it, the speedo/tacho/milage indicator all rely on the the speed sensor, so I'd start looking there to be honest. HTH. |

Are you sure about that? I've had the speedo stop twice on me in the past, once was the broken chopper in the sensor and more recently I had to replace the whole sensor back to its plug under the tank. When this gave up everything carried on working apart from the speedo and obviously the mileage didn't increase, this time I've got nothing, no display on the LCD or anything, I would have thought its unrelated?

From the wiring diagram on the main site, the LCD itself takes positive feed from the main fuse box (red wire, fuse 5) and grounds on the front lights (specifically the right headlight). Try a multimeter across there for voltage. IIRC the LCD won't light if it's less than 7.4v (or is it 9.6v, not sure). If you have the right voltage here, I can only guess that the LCD itself is fubar'd, and it might be worth talking to one of the guys that's had a major off (where the front end didn't get too damaged). I doubt this is the case though, much more likely it's a wiring issue. I'll have a dig around on the forum, I'm sure someone has a pic of the curvy dash so I've more of an idea as to what's working & what's not. When I've worked it out, I'll try post back. EDIT: OK, so I finally found a picture of a curvy dash in the photo's section. My thoughts are that if the rev counter (tacho), speedo & LCD aren't working, there's a dodgy earth somewhere. Like I said above, check from fuse 5 (red wire) to the back of the dash connector (black/white wire) for a voltage. If this is OK, try from the fuse to the back of the dash (again, black/white wire) instead of the connector. This would rule out a ground here. If you've got the ignition on when you're testing, and it all comes to life when you touch the probes, you've basically proven it's a dodgy earth by rewiring the bike. Unfortunately, if it's not that connector you've had issues with in the past, it's going to get fun to find it. As a matter of interest, there's another 12v positive that comes from the dash to the front left indicator, solid black wire, so I'd try that as well to make sure it has a decent voltage. Failing all that, and depending on how quick you want to get the bike up & running properly, I'd be tempted to save the effort & just replace all of harness 2 (the left half of the diagram) because you've had issues with connectors in the past, and it seems like a re-occuring issue. Before you do that though, take the connectors apart & look for any signs of water damage. Then it's a matter of choice (if there is water damage) as to if you take it all out & start again, or if you splice another good connector in it's place. Unfortunately, it could be one of those things that takes time to find. |

Thanks, you refer to the wiring diagram on the main site, where are you seeing this? this will help me out as I can print it out.
What seems odd is that I parked up thursday night and all was well, turned on Mon morning and all was dead, I haven't seen any intermittant behavoir so I'm unsure that its a connector. I'm still riding it and at no time has anything started working through vibration so I'm assuming its more teminal. At the weekend I can pull off the fairings and the dash as I've had this out before to replace bulbs so this should make life easier to trace the fault. Cheers for the help ![]() Mags |

I had the same problem a while ago and it ended up being a broken connection in the main loom where it rubs on the bolt that atteches the riders seat to the frame

Cheers guy's I'll get onto it at the weekend, I did have the main battery wire rub through a long time ago, that was fun to find!
