Yes, doesn't matter, if traffic is slow, filtering is an option. |

OK, so last week on the way home, sat in the miles of roadworks behind countless trucks, a biker came past me merrily filtering away. This was on a dual carriageway, with one lane (the left at the time) closed because of roadworks. However, no-one was actually working at the road works (and never is at that time).
I considered this for all of, um, about half a second. Then I decided that it was too dodgy to be doing (mainly because of the plod potential, I'd be happy that I'd never put my bike in a situation where I compromise my safety) so left them to their filtering, and I sat in traffic. Where two lanes were open, I would probably happily filter down the middle of traffic though. So, I put it to you... would you, or wouldn't you (obviously situation dependent, hence the options on the poll). |

I always thought they were coning off a lane for bikes
![]() I do this sometimes - there've been lots of coned off lanes on the north circular over the last few months... |

Ive done it a couple of times, i did do it a lot in france on the way back from holiday last year, there was no way i was sitting in the boiling August heat with tonnes of cars, i must have gone for over 20 miles in total on the hard shoulder.

Far safer for bikes to be in the coned off lane with no works going on than trying to squeeze between two narrow lanes of angry impatient lane swapping cars.

Would filter, but only in the lane open for traffic. But as these are long term roadworks, would find an alternative route. (like back road from St. Asaph to Bodelwyddan or A547 to Abergele via Rhuddlan)

I've filtered in coned of areas once or twice. Don't do it often for fear of the plod, rather than any real danger to myself or others. As others have said, it's often vastly safer than taking your chances amongst idiots veering between lanes in cars.

I have never sat behind a car,ever
![]() If its safe for ME to do so I have no problem. Filtering that is, not motoring down a coned off area/ lane. If somes fecker in a car blocks me i will nip round a cone but thats it. Generally THEY are pretty courteous. I don't dive past them at speed. The SV is a great filterer cos its so thin, and makes a racket. I was just about to come off the motorway last friday onto a slip road when i caught sight of a Volvo estate (surprise, surprise) booting it down the hard shoulder onto said slip road. Scary s**t. |

I rarely go in the coned area, although have done it on local roads, on the motorways, i'll filter no matter what.
