Default Are my carb heaters draining my battery?

When ever theres a hint of cold weather my battery dies A friend of mine asked if i had a cold a starting switch which mad me think abuot the carb heaters, would they be causing problems for me?

I know pople say they are useless at there job but i've never thought about getting rid of them until know, i supose the heaters on there own shouldn't drain the battery but i've as got a fan on the reg/rec to keep it cool in the summer

I doubt that's your problem.Have you checked your charging system properly with a multitester? How old is your battery?Old batteries do fail in cold weather as it exposes weakness that you can get away with in the summer.Optimate is your friend.

The cold impacts battery performance a lot in winter. Chances are its close to knackered.

Funny you should say that - my battery was dead today too. I put it on charge and it seems OK now.

Changed 90% of my charging system before summer, brought a new battery too

Could be a short somewhere but the battery only dies when its cold out which mad me think it could be the heaters

carb heaters rarely cause trouble.

No.

Now go out and buy an optimate.A few hours on that every couple of weeks and your new battery will last five years or more.My battery is starting to show it's age now,but it is nearly seven years old.
