OK today I actually have got up and gone to work at my official contractual place of work. The first time for about 4 months. Good start my access codes are still working. Got to my office and WTF.
Somebody has been in and removed 50% of the furniture. My desk is still there but conference table and comfy chairs gone. A crow bar has been applied to the filing cabinet. Have we been burgled. No Apparently, As the sole occupier of a wing of the building the office furniture people thought they could also raid my office whilst they took all the redundant furniture and it was only when the found the cupboards/filling cabinets in use that they questioned should they also empty "That office". I feel violated, personal papers & property, have been removed from locked storage and dumped on my desk for all and sundry to walk in and read. I am waiting for the site manager to arrive and my spleen will be vented. I know they want me out as they want to reduce the overall office size we lease and as I am viewed as no longer resident I don't deserve an office, but this is too much

Think yourself lucky you don't work in a paperless office (as is our company policy), then they'd of not noticed & taking everything including the carpet

I used to work for a law firm in Plymouth called Bond Pearce. I went on holiday and thought I'd done a pretty good job in tidying up. But the boss wasn't happy and when I got back I got a bollocking. He put so much away that everyone thought I'd left.

Still not too bad, a few years ago I was working out in China and the company merged. As I wasn't in the UK to fight for my job the other IT manager got the job in the new organisation. I was appointed his deputy and came back to find that as I was no longer a manager I wasn't entitled to an office so they had employed a contractor to remove a wall of my office. 6 weeks later I went overseas again on business to return to a letter telling me I was no longer entitled to a car and please return the car/keys by the end of the week. I refused to go away again as I might not have a job when I came back. Especially when the guy who administered the expense claims told me the new FD had asked for my expense records since the start of my employment.
Still here 10 years later but feeling unloved again. Ed. I had a reputation for an untidy desk. One of my directors had my desk swept into a trolley bin which was then locked in storeroom until I had to beg them for the paperwork I needed. I leaned my lesson and nothing is ever left on my desk now. Hence I think the furniture removers thinking my office was unoccupied

Tell me about it. Late last year I'd not been in for close to 2 months. They'd changed the carpet, alarm system, kitchen, departments had moved round, new "rest room" etc. some staff had changed (IE some left, some joined), it was like being in a different office.
EDIT: Oh and my desk is intentionally always minging. I find it discourages people from using it as a "hotdesk" (and by that I mean stealing my stationary and software CDS, making long distance personal calls on my phone, leaving unfinished mugs of tea under paperwork, rifling through my drawers, etc.) |

The guy next to me has a minging desk. He thinks it is a sign of how busy he is - oddly enough all our visitors assume it a dumping ground and assume that the guy can't be arsed.
I worked for one company in a reasonably senior role, the Managing Director announced that I didn't need an office or desk at all (I was site based too) He backed down when I asked what I was supposed to do with reports when I wanted to go to the loo. He was the recipient of most of these reports. |
