Default New SV owner, first impressions

After my '98 CBR600 was stolen in October and then the 28 day wait for the insurance money, I walked into my local Suzuki dealer and bought myself a new SV650s sport. Now with 300 miles on the clock here are my first impressions of the bike.

The SV is great, amazing. According to the specs the engine is down on power compared with the Honda but you'd never know it. The SV seems equal (most cases far better) to the Honda in every way, and that's even while keeping to the 5500rpm limit while running in. Can't wait to get the first service out the way so I can rev it more.

It's about 20 kg lighter than the old CBR (feels more like 40), which makes the bike feel great on the brakes and round the twisties.

Within 20 mins of getting the bike home, the seat cowl was fitted, grab rail was removed, along with both rear foot rests and a new black exhaust hanger fitted in their place.

Here's to a great bike.

Happy New Year everyone.

i know how you feel matey, i went from a 98 cbr600 to my sv and they are pretty sharp for a cheap bike (cheap compared to the cbr) and when you put a race can on thats something the cbr cant match THE SOUND

Default New SV owner

Well what can i say? Passed my DAS test June '06, picked up my brand spanking new SV650S K6 on the friday afternoon after passing my test in the morning! As i'm only 5'8" and an inside leg of about 27/28" i felt i was a bit limited to which bike i could go for. Almost went for the Kaw er6f until the probs getting insurance arose (£1100)...1st bike, just passed test, no garage etc, glad i never got it now.
I'm so impressed with how easy this thing is to ride, rode Yam DT 15 yrs ago but not touched a bike for that period. My ability & confidence grows every day, even now in the winter still using it for work. Insurance side was much better as well (£450 fully comp), managed to save £500 on bike as it in red (Evertonian!!) so that paid for the land anchor, datatool sys 4 alarm & tracker! Altho i did manage to drop it after 4 days no major damage just cracked indicator (so replaced the lot with iridium mini arrows ) & snapped clutch lever (£7 for copy from local spares).
Running in period was my learning curve to get back into riding, but once it fully run in, the beast was unleashed!! Had a mate at MTC exhausts fit a single outlet stainless oval can (£150 fully fitted) with removable baffles (highly recommend these blokes http://www.mtcexhausts.co.uk/)...now it sounds like a V-twin
Not had any major probs, just niggly bits, but sorted, now i want to get ride properly suited to me, braided hoses (tho i can't find anyone doing k6 yet ) and better suspension setup...just needs adjusting.
Really can't fault this bike, brill for new & experienced riders alike, perfect all-rounder!
What more can i say...oh yea...glad i found this forum, could make a big difference with all this wealth of knowledge.

SV Andy - the SV is my first bike too, and what you say I've found to be true aswell!

Even with my 33bhp restriction, the bike is still quite punchy.

And now im taking my girlfreind on it too. It dosnt seem to make much of a differance really, so that confirms it as a good bike for two people!

Great bike, I dont think i'll ever sell mine (but i will buy a gsxr750 in four years time...)

Matt

Andy - K6 braided hoses are the same as K3, K4 and K5.
