Default What wireless house alarm?

Am considering fitting the house out with a new alarm, preferably something wireless.

Anyone had any experiences? Good/Bad? Will need approx 7-8 PIRs 2 Door 1-2 smoke and if possible SMS/Email/Telephone notification options

It looks to be a minefield out there

I've got a BT Home Monitoring system (installed just to protect the SV!) and it's been really good. In the year or so I've had it I've had two false alarms, one of which was my fault and the other genuinely false.

It's a piece of p!ss to use, with remote controls to arm and disarm, separate settable PIN codes, battery backup and remote monitoring through a BT website.

I'm very pleased with it, and it's been worth every penny of the hundred or so quid it cost me.

Do you have to pay a subscription for the stats service? also, does it do this online (via t'internet) or via a dialup server?

One thing I didn't mention is that I have ADSL so therefore dont want something which uses the phoneline directly as this can and usually does affect line noise. With me being in the sticks the line noise figures here are already at a critical level.

I think I pay about £14.99 a quarter or something. I don't use the remote monitoring as the system would dial every arm/disarm, and it's plugged into my company-provided line. The autodialer is just that - a dialer, it's not IP based. That said, I haven't experienced any degradation to the line quality and my area isn't brilliant at the best of times.

Are you installing yourself?

If so screwfix direct have some good wireless options, solar charge for the siren box etc.

I have the Yale wireless alarm system at home.

http://www.yalelock.com/Yale/Templat...e____3561.aspx

I have sensors on both the front and back doors, one on the shed door where the SV lives and movement sensors all over the house and shed. The good thing about it, is you can set the alarm and even if someone breaks into the shed and not the house, the alarm will still activate.

Hello mate

I'm not a big truster of radio alarms but they can be good

Monitored systems are only required to dial out on set/unset if it is a commercial premises, this is due to insurance and ACPO (police) requirements.

Speak to El Saxo, he works for a global alarm company. He knows what he is talking about and very good with the technical stuff and he has many resources he can speak to if he is unsure about anything

Cheers

I'm with the the Overly Large Simian as another user of the Yale system.

Real easy to install and maintain. The remote switch is a bit bulky, though they may have changed it since I got my system a few years ago, but very handy for taking out with me on the bike. It makes disarming via the garage and putting the bike away alot less hassle that a keypad only option. Though that is also set up anyway.

The only problem I did have was with one of the door sensors on the main garage door. It's an old up-&-over type and there was no really convenient place to site the two-part sensor. Made the best of it but occasionally found that the doublesided adhesive pad thing had a tendency to lift away in extreme heat. Normally no trouble, but a few days the garage did get hot enough - so it set off the tamper switch on the sensor.

Now fixed though with the judicious application of gaffa tape.
