Please bare with me as i don't know all the technical jargon
![]() The house we've just bought has been networked..loadsa cables coming out from under the stairs, and sockets galore in every room, now as far as i know these are "ethernet" connection. My router/modem has 1 ethernet, 1 usb and 1 adsl slot in the back of it. I only want to network 1 bedroom (for the PC) and the lounge (for the x-box), my question is...do i just stick a ethernet splitter in the back of the modem and attach the appropriate network cables? Or is their something else i need? Answers in halfwit speak please ![]() Thanks in advance, If this doesn't make any sense then please ignore me ![]() |

Two options:
Replace the router with something like this, you might even be able to get one with wireless for the future for a similar price. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/52754/rb/24424343043 Option2: Connect one of these to the back of your current router: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/8894 And plug the other network devices into that. The jobs a goodun. However, if you wanted to be a geek, you could run VoIP into every room, using the cabling have. Different extension numbers and a single or multiple incoming phone lines (all via your broadband) for every room. That would be cool ![]() Dan |
