Default Gear lever jammed when stopped

Hi
I've just bought a sv650 k3. After about 20 minutes of riding the gear lever is as solid as a rock when I stop. So when I stop in 1st I cannot get it into neutral.

The dealers have adjusted the clutch which was of no use and when I looked through the service history the gear lever had been changed due to "seizing". I guess its an ongoing problem.

One thing I tried today, when I stopped in 1st, I applied upward pressure on the gear lever and reved to 3-4000 rpm and it slipped in to neutral. I'll try that again incase it was a fluke.

I'm going back to the dealers but I would like to know what I'm talking about. (Yeah right)
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
JB

It needs removing from the footrest pivot and thoroughly cleaned and greased. This is a common problem and should see you right.

I bottled it as to removing the footrests, when i had the same problem last year on my K3 as i was starting to damage one of the allen-head screws. Tried getting the actual lever pivot unbolted after cutting down an allen key but no joy. It moves a little and pivots the lever but thats all.

After throwing a wobbler, I calmed down and blasted it with wd40.

Sorted! back to normal and has not given any bother since.

Gie it a skoosh

If cleaning the pivot doesnt help check the tension on the clutch cable.

I've given it a good squirt of wd40 and I'll test it tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all your advice but its gotta go back as it's still doing it.
It's only a problem when stationary and worse when its been ridden for while.
If anyone has anymore ideas it would be appreciated.

I passed my test on the 21st Dec 07 and the reaction I get from all bike riders has been great, a totally different world to being a car driver

OK a couple more things to check.

1. Check the oil level, I found before that when I by accident over filled the oil level it made to find neutral.

2. Check your chain tension and make sure your chain is lubbed and adjusted correctly.

Failing that its probably your clutch needs adjusting still...
