Default Help - Considering a Second Bike

Well Spring is on the way, and I popped into my local bike shop, and there she was.

A Triumph Speed Triple - 7 years old.

Now, I'd never part with my SV, but I have said that I don't want to die before I've owned a Triumph, and with my back problems over Christmas, it made me realise that age is creeping up.

I've got a test ride booked next Saturday, but I'm still dithering on whether I should get her. Considering her age she was immaculate, and Mr Lou couldn't see anything untoward.

Anyone know of anything we should out for?

PS, WOW 955cc

Fantastic machines. 7 years old, mine is a 5year old one. Only got 28k on her so far, but still going well.

I think Rictus has had about 1/2 a dozen of them over the years, and still has one now.

Now I believe the 1999 one is a 955cc one. However, if its the first of the speed triples of the T5 series 885cc (T509 stickers), which I think were around '98 beware that they are known for throwing gear boxes.

Other than thats, theres been a few recalls, which can all be done free from dealers if they haven't been done. Fuel connectors and the like.

Don't let that put you off, the 955 I have is fantastic. I'm more than happy with it and it does everything I ask of it. Starts on the button, and pulls like a train.

Sarg, Swiss, Coombest, and Rictus Have had various triumphs in the T5 series, and most of them are happy (well, apart from Tim!)

www.t595.net will give you more info on the speed triples, tech stuff, etc.

Enjoy the test ride, just watch out for the weight!

It's a Triumph, it'll break down. Otherwise nice choice, buy it.

Caution

Please, please be aware the experience of owning and riding the T5 Speedtriple is like nothing else,it'll make the SV very much an "also ran" and you may well never ride it again (yes I did enjoy the two and a bit years on my SV, but then again it was only waiting to get back on a Speedtriple ).
I've had the best part of 50 bikes and 6 of those have been Speedtriples, I just can't find a better bike,
The older model 97-98 is 885cc, 955 is from 99-01, then the newer ones (no air scoops on the back pods, three bolts in the righthand clutch casing) 03-onwards.

the 99-01 are the ones to go for, so it sounds like you're onto a winner style and power, check the clutch as the torque can eat them if used to vigorously and make sure the fuel conectors have been changed from plastic to metal (this is an old recall, so should have been done sometime back),apart from that just enjoy.
I've done over 500,000 miles on these things, all over europe to the bike races and everyday transport, truly stunning, Oh and don't be surprised if you go out to clean the rust of the bolts and you're back indoors two minutes later, they were designed for this country so weather better than you're used to.

Get it, the only choice

Cheers Mark.

Need any more prompting ?

Cheers Guys.

As long as the test ride is ok, then I think I've as good as made up my mind. And it's in the Green that I've always liked (well colour is very important to a girly!) And she isn't too tall for me, I can get my feet fully on the floor.

Fingers crossed for good weather on Saturday, and I'll let you know how I get on.

What are these like for windblast - does that little protector actually do anything? I always see Triple owners hanging on

Well it is a naked bike, the fly screen things come in three sizes, the small clock cover one, the slightly larger one (as in the red T509 pictured above) and after-market ones.

the smaller ones tend to breakup the wind in front of you, after fitting one you'll notice the difference, the after-market ones give a bit more cover, but you still need to hang on a bit at 150mph (on you private track of course), basically the bike will go faster than you can hang on.

Cheers Mark.

Nope, unless you've never ridden a naked bike before. In which case after a couple of weeks testing this you will be use to it.

Once your use to it, you wont notice it until one day your be out riding thinking this looks just like the motogp camera view....Oh ****..............well I'm mid corner now I might as well go with this....as you glance down once your out of the corner you see your speedo at 10 o clock, which on the s3 is about 110..

Nice machine, easy to control, easy to go fast, and more importantly easy to go slow.
