Default Paddock Stand

Right - I have finally had enough of wheeling my bike up and down the driveway to lube the chain amogst other things, so it is time to shell out for a paddock stand, which leaves me with 4 questions, as follows:

1. Where is the best place to get one?
2. Is there anything I need to look out?
3. Can anyone recommend one for a K3 650s?
4. Is there anything I need to do to my bike in order to use the stand or will it just work?

Thanks all!

Go the whole hog and get an Abba stand. Will cost more, but is so much more useful in the longer term.

Although I don't own one, I would always recommend buying an Abba stand.

I cheapskated and bought a traditional front/rear paddock stand set.

First thing I learned was I then had to buy bobbins/hooks as I didn't like using the cup system onto the swing arm.

Then using the paddock stand is a trick to learn as you have to set up one side, as you then apply load and the bike straightens up you then have to hook up the other side. Easy when you are used to it, but daunting for a first timer.

Now the front stand is a pain to use. I am always convinced that it is going to fall off.

I was given a front wheel grab type stand the other day. Brilliant for holding your bike upright. makes checking oil level a doddle. and also makes it far easier to then use the rear paddock stand as the bike is already upright.

However, the downside of traditional stands.

You cannot remove your forks.
You cannot do any rear suspension work or remove swinging arm.

So I guess an Abba is best compromise. I will probably invest in on one day. But with the money pit I call a garage I would be better setting up in business doing repairs just to get a return on my investment.

Buy an NWS, having owned both that and an Abba, I'd buy the NWS again rather than the Abba.

The advantage of the Abba stand is that you can buy them used on Ebay for £40--50.At least I did.
I've only ever seen a couple of NWS ones second hand.I believe the NWS stand is now made by someone else?
