Default Where do I buy a battery for an SV650S K3?

I moved in October from Wiltshire to Hertfordshire and have been
working 24/7 on my new job, hence no time to ride the bike for
pleasure and no energy to commute on it (as I did before). Finally,
today decided to go for a ride only to discover that the battery is
dead. The battery is the original one and has served for 3 and a
half years so I don't see much point in charging it and want to buy
a new one.

So the question is: where do I buy a battery for an SV650S K3?

I am not so much worried about paying a few extra pounds. What I am
worried about is getting the wrong battery. I did a brief Google
search but the results came through inconclusive: it is not clear
which battery is suitable for an SV650S K3. And I must say I have
extensive experience of trying to fit wrong batteries in cars.

I recently bought this for my K4 which I am pretty sure fits the K3 (according to the guide on the website).

whatever you purchase try to get one with the closest spec to a genuine yuasa ytx12 BS as fitted to the sk3. ie 10amp hour with cca (coldcranking amps) of 180. Many other maufacturers say their battery is equiv to a ytx12BS but whilst they're the same dimensions and capacity of 10 amp hour the cold cranking performance can be way down. eg 90. Dont get me wrong this battery (a 90 cca varta) will probably work fine for a period But as varta themselves stated to me will fail sooner than one with the appropriate cca figure. Many dealers just state their products as "equivalent to ytx12 BS" You need to dig deeper as I found out. HTH

Hi Prof

Get yourself an Optimate (or similar) if you're not going to be riding the bike on a regular basis (ie every week). It'll keep the battery in tip-top condition for when you do go out on it

cheers

Thanks for your comments, guys!

All this talk about coldcranking amps got me worried. I think I will
phone an authorised Suzuki motorcycle dealer.

I didn't find Suzuki motorcycle dealers near Hatfield but there is
a Suzuki dealer that is easily reachable from my place of work:
Metropolis Motorcycles

http://www.metropolismotorcycles.com/

Their Vauxhall branch appears to be an authorised Suzuki motorcycle
dealer. I've never heard of Metropolis Motorcycles and am not sure
how good they are but I hope they know which battery to order.

I don't think I need a battery charger that much as I plan to start
riding regularly, as I used to. Maybe when Lidl or Aldi have their
annual biking day I will get myself a cheap charger just to be on
the safe side.

Ususally any type of dealership (Honda, yam ect.) will be willing to order you whatever battery you need. They want your money. And the batterys are not made by suzuki so they can do it even if they arent a dealer.

Fair enough. But are they qualified to know which battery to order?

In the past, when I lived in Trowbridge, I used a local Yamaha
dealership because there were no Suzuki dealerships nearby. But
these Yamaha people were well qaulified: I knew them for many years,
they knew me and they also knew a lot about Suzukis. Now, living in
a new place I don't know which dealerships are run by competent
people. Say, we have a dealership in Hatfield called Twist & Go
Motorcycles
but I am not sure they know much about Suzukis.

Is this

what I need? A bit pricey (£70.99 +£6.99 delivery) but if it is the real deal I might go for it.

Try a pm to Northwind. He knows the score on battery replacement and will advise you on what's good for your bike. And do get an Optimate for general battery maintenance. It will last almost indefinitely if you trickle charge it once a week.
