Hi folks...My mates sv is flashing FI on the clocks and wont start. W can get it going sometimes by disconecting the battery but this only works sometimes. Has anyone had this problem before?
Thanks

I've had similar, except the light wasn't flashing. Flashing means there's a fault on the FI itself IIRC (says so in the manual).

I remember the book saying there's 2 types of FI fault. One is a "stop the planet, I wanna get off" type major issue & the engine should not be started until it's resolved. The other is a "well, I know there's a problem, but I'm ok with that" type thing. I can't remember what the flashing light means, but I think it's the latter.

In my case, a faulty reg/rect - battery connection (it wasn't plugged in) caused a solid FI light. So that's worth a check, is it charging properly? What happens when you hit the button? Does the starter relay click? How fast? etc etc.

Try sticking it in dealer service mode, and if you search the forum for the "TPS mod" writeup, there's a link in that thread to what each error code means. That narrows it down to individual switches that could be faulty etc.

HTH

EDIT: I've just seen your number of posts, so welcome to the org! Also, you can put it in Dealer Service mode by doing the following:
1) Open the pillion seat, find the small white connector with a black rubber boot on it (mine was hidden under the main seat until I moved it).
2) Take the rubber boot off, there's 6 holes in the connector block, only 4 have metal pins inside them.
3) Think of the block as 2 columns, with 3 holes in each column, jump the 2 connections that are in the same row with a piece of wire.
4) Turn the ignition on & look at the LCD display.

Thanks for your help. That will give us someting to go on. The bike has been parked up for a couple of months so am hopeing it a dodgy battery. But the starter seems to turn of quickly which makes me think its not the battery.
Its actually a race bike with a race loom on it so i`ll check over all the conections. Anyway its agood excuse to spend sunday working in the garage. Thanks again

just had a thought would "FI" have anything to do with the fuel injection?

Yea, sorry, I took it that FI was universally understood as being Fuel Injection.

I should of been more explicit, my apologies.

It's entirely possible that you don't have any Fuel Injection because of a lack of power (like mine was), or it could be something more serious.
