Thumbs down Half-a$$ tank painting

So here's my tank damage. How do I approach healing my tank. I ordered a "ding king", in the hopes I can pull this sucker out. If that doesnt work I will try to freeze it + boiling water trick. The paint is really just chipping off. I could order some touch up paint, maybe some primer, sand away the cracks and just paint over. I know I'm not the first person to dent a tank, so without the help of a pro autobody shop, give me some options. I dotn expect it to look anywhere near perfect, I just want to prevent rust and not have a glaring silver dent.

Here is a closeup of the above picture.

Strip and polish the entire tank?

That is, strip the paint from the tank and then polish it, not polish it in the nip.

I'd rough up the exposed metal and use P38 to build it up to where the tank was before the dent then use knifing putty to get it perfecrtly smooth with some wet and dry paper. 2 coats of primer, 4-6 coats of paint and some lacquer and it should look pretty good again.

Touch it up as good as you can & if it doesn't look right just stick some fake carbon fibre over it.

i had a big dent in the back of my tank paint was ok just the ding

mine was a k5 pointy

way i sorted the ding was took the tank off and removed the fuel pump then using a brush handle forced the dent out through the fuel pump hole

a dent like that will be had to get out perfctly without filling. your best option is to find someone who can respray the whole tank reasonably cheap. i got mine done for about 80 quid. which isnt bad especially if you ask around body shops. they tend to ask around 150.
a hole tank cover would be the cheapis option, but a whole new tank you would be looking around 230-250 from main dealer.
