Default Is it the battery???

Hi Folks,

Hopefully you will be able to help me with this one. Have recently bought a 2002 SV650S, have managed to be able to take it out most days but after leaving it for a couple of days, I go to start it and get nothing except a ticking noise.

I called the breakdown service out who managed to jump start it and it was running ok after that, which lead me to believe it was the battery, but again since leaving it for a few days, I go to start it and all I get is the ticking noise.

The lights and horn still work so I assume the battery is not completly dead but I still can't figure out why, after leaving it for a few days, it wont start unless I get the jump leads out??

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Richard.

Sounds like your battery is flat and or is knackered and not holding its charge.

Could also be a fault with the charging circuit on your bike and that when you do ride it, its not charging the battery properly. Have a search for threads on regulator / rectifier failure as its quite a common fault on the Curvey SV. Its been covered loads of times and it'll tell you how to check your charging circuit with a multimeter.

If all thats fine then you'll need to do something about your battery. If its the bikes orginal battery then its probably worth spending a bit of money on a replacement battery. At this point investing in an optimate or some such other trickle charger is also a good idea as it'll keep your battery topped up when your not using the bike.

Hope that helps.
