Basically my mate has just passed his test
![]() ![]() So what do you need to get road tax? I am pretty sure it is V5, valid MOT certificate and proof of insurance...is that right? If that is right then will he have to wait for an insurance cover note until he can apply for road tax, assuming he gets insurance now/ this evening? Just wondering if there is a way we can go for a ride tomorow...or over the weekend....or does he simply just have to wait? Cheers Mark |

Yup. You're right, V5, MOT & Insurance.
Or the tax reminder instead of the V5. |

Fortunately he has already rung around so thats some time saved.
He has gone with carole nash in the end. Does anyone know how long they usually take to send cover notes? Also he started the insurance from 15/03/07(tomorrow), so how does that work, as he wont be able to ride until he has road tax and he cant do that without the cover note. So has he "lost" a few days worth of insurance...if so i will have to ring and laugh at him! Looks like we wont be riding until monday or saturday if were lucky...i might go for a bimble over to his place, just to torture him...muhahahahahaha |

It usually takes 1 working day to get the cover note. If he's arranged insurance today, it'll be posted 1st class tomorrow, and should arrive Friday. Then you can get tax sorted. If insurance is effective tomorrow, then yes, he has "lost" a day, due to not having the documents & therefore no tax. But what does 1 day cost? Something like £1-£2. 24 hours aint a big deal. |

If he has the road tax renewal form for the bike, it should have a reference number on it to allow renewal on line. So if he waits until late tomorrow he may be able to get tax that way. They check for MOT and tax instantly. Worth a try. That way he'll be legal for the weekend if not holding all the documents.

The online system says that it can take up to 5 working days for the tax disc to arrive. It's an offence to not display a tax disc. Whilst you'd have to be seen not displaying it, it would probably show on a police check that you have tax (safe from ANPR but not traffic wardens ![]() Also, the online tax systems might not of been updated to say that you have insurance, there could be a couple of days lead time on that. Might not though. |
