Default Sorry for a starting problem post...

Sorry about this post...
I was coming home from work this morning, (sv650s v reg) got 1 minute from work, pulled out at a T junction onto a main road and managed to stall it in the middle of the road. A couple of hurried attempts to start the bike and nothing happened. I pushed it from the middle of the busy main road to the pavement. Attempted to start it again noticed that all the lights were flicking on and off though very dim. Realised my indicator was on so turned it off. Turned the bike off and on again.
10) The oil, neutral light and fuel light very gradually faded into full brightness.
20) I attempted to start it but all that happened was the lights all went out.
30) goto 10 (a few times).
Realised that all wasn't well. Got my Mrs to meet me with the jump leads. Bike immediately started with a jump. Removed lead. Bike immediately died.
Rinse and repeat.

Has a wire come off somewhere? Have I managed to kill the battery with a few dodgy starts?

Thanks

Welcome to the site, first off, pointy or curvy? (pre/post 2001?)

I'm going to guess that you ride a pointy. A whole scottish £ (Sorry Northy) says that's the case.

By repeatedly trying to start the bike, you flattened the battery. I know from experience that a pointy with a flat battery doesn't run. You need power in the battery to run the Fuel Injection system. Curvy's don't have this problem due to carbs.

Why it died originally? Good question. Could be anything from a ham fisted clutch through to a faulty charging circuit.

Things to check? Alternator for output, battery for output (after it's had a good charge). I reckon that your lights slowly fading in was due to a flat battery & not a lot more.

Did you by any chance notice the FI light on (solid IIRC, but maybe flashing) just before it died? This would help point to a faulty charge.

Check the teminals on the battery are nice and tight
Check the plug that goes into the ecu (Under pillion seat) Unplug and plug back in
Then check the bike is charging at the correct voltage (Search on here for that)
If not, then you could have either a duff battery and/or rectifier.

No need to appologise my firend, and welcome to the site.

Given our friend here stated "sv650s v reg", you'd be well advised to also check the rear loom around the subframe (do a search on wiring/rubbing) the wiring at the headstock and the starter solanoid rely (behind righthand side panel) just as a matter of course.

Oh and Greetings Paul, add your location to your profile and I'm sure if you have difficulties someone local guide you in the right direction or indeed lend a hand.

Cheers Mark.

Got a bit more time on my hands than some, don't even have to pretend to be working

Cheers Mark.

Double check your battery terminals are tight too, my +ve one managed to loosen itself, causing me to have an issue with stalling bike and an inability to start.

Did the same this morning...
Stalled while turning right (off or a main road), then had on of those seemingly long drawn out....

'it's going, no I've got it, yes it's going, yes, it's gone too far, no, yes, no, no, I've got it'

Just managed to save it, but the effort of picking it up that close to the ground has made me ache in some odd places, but not in the wallet!

Once the (my) SV (650K5) decides it's going to stall it seems irretrievable, then is a pig to start. In this case in the middle of the road.
In my case I wonder if it was because it was cold and frosty this morning so I bimbled the 20 odd miles to work, and it was needing a blast of higher revs to clear? Or maybe plugs getting tired at 5.5k.

Thanks for the kind reception and responses, I have had my bike for 9 months now with no previous problems, apart from cold/wet starting in the morning where it can sometimes be sluggish to start. I just don't understand how it can die so completely and suddenley.
