Default Cazrburetor woes

Good evening.

Well, I tried to get the bike going as it's definitely summertime here now, and the throttle was stuck as a stuck thing, so I ordered a new set of throttle cables, assuming that was the trouble. On closer inspection (i.e. dissasembling the front half of the bike (and how in the name of all that's holy do they get that coolant header tank in there??)), however, it appears that the cables are actually ok and the problem is with the front carb.
So, I've taken off the linky arm thingy and established that the rear carb is free and easy, it's just the front that has issues. I've removed the bit that the throttle cables attach to and can't seem to go any further. Clearly, the trouble lies with the rod that goes right through the body of the carb and has the butterfly on it, but I can't work out how to remove the rod so I can clean it up.

Anyway, if anyone has done this sort of thing before and can offer advice, that would be much appreciated. Alternatively, an exploded diagram of the carbs would show me how it's meant to come apart.

Many thanks in advance.

Charley

To be totally honest, if that part's properly seized the chances of succesfully stripping the carbs are pretty slim, the fasteners etc aren't easy to shift at the best of times. With SV carbs being typically £30 to £40 used for a good set it might make more sense to just get the good parts out of those ones and swap in a new set.

Don't really know how you'd go about actually fixing the ones you have, though, I'm afraid.

Thanks Northwind. I found an exploded view on an American site, and the part in question is not 'exploded', so maybe it's just not possible to service them. Bummer.

Anyone know how much a new set from Suzuki would go for?

Thanks!

A new set is around 500 american. Ebay really is the best bet. I got some for only $20.

To take the rod out you need to undo the 2 screws that hold the butterfly in then the rod pulls out IIRC
I had problems with the rod that links the front to the back butterfly, there was to much movement and i could get them to sync so i had to strip all that and replace it with my spare stuff
