Default Dead curvey clocks.....again

My clocks have died on me again, the previous 2 times it was a break in the live (red) going to the clocks in the main loom, thins time i had the same symtoms (no speedo, rev counter or fuel warning light) so i had a spare loom and put it on.........same problems
I checked the new loom for any breaks and there seems to be none so i changed the ECU and starter relay, still no change (i swapped them because there are wires running to and from the clocks from them)
I'm putting a spare set of clocks on the bike on sunday and checking over the front loom for any breaks while i'm there and just gonna check the clocks are getting power and earthing it, if not then i'm thinking about just running a live or an earth to the closest good feeds, is this good practice?

I know finding the cause of a bad earth is a bitch but i don't see it can be the earth as the idiot lights still work ok
