Default Tail Tidy K5

Hi, I got a tail tidy and want to fit it to my k5 sv650s. I got everything stripped off the bike - fairings etc, but couldn't get the old one off. In the instructions it mentions loosening the black panel and dropping it down so I can take the old tail off. I just can't seem to get the panel to drop after loosening the two bolts. It looks like it is catching on the old tail, and I can't get at the bolts on the old tail until this panel is dropped down. Any ideas ????

Thanks. DJ.

Detailed instructions are available from Hamicad's web site, a step by step guide with pictures. One of the big reasons I bought from them, and I am very happy with their product on my K5.
Have you pulled the pop-pins yet?

Cheers for the reply.
I can get everything off the bike including the pins, but I can't get the under tray off to then be able to get access to the bolts to take the old tail off. It seems that it has to slide out in a fashion, but no go I'm afraid.

Cheers.

I seem to remember having a similar problem when fitting a tail tidy to my K5.

In the end it just took a bit of "brute force" pulling down on the plastic undertray and all was well.

Although take care not to break anything!.

If I remember right, there are 4 bolts under the tray. You need to bend the tray down slightly and use a conventional spanner to loosen them (a socket head won't fit in the gap). Then just undo them with your fingers.

Have you removed the side bolts then unclipped it to lower the undertray (see pic below). Where abouts are you located? Maybe there's someone local who can pop round and take a quick look.

That is correct, I did not remove the undertray, just held it down while removing and replacing the bolts.
