Unhappy RIP: The Humble Audio Casette

So, it looks like the end of an error...erm era. Currys are to stop selling the good ole c90 audio casette, and to stop selling Hifi's with tape decks by the end of the year.

I have fond memorexs of sitting there making mix tapes, finding a mealting tape on my dash board, using them for copying Spectrum games, un raveling tape from casette decks etc etc.

Long live the C90.

I remember being incredulous when I bought my brand new MG TF in 2004 - it came fitted with a TAPE DECK.

A sports car.

With a tape deck.

In the new millenium.

(no wonder they went bust whilst the owners walked off with wads of dosh).

The main thing to remember about the audio cassette, when feeling sad about its impending passing, is that it was utterly ****. Still got loads of good stuff on cassette that I need to offload onto a more stable format before they crumble away though.

I liked minidisc. Lots of professional use for them still, just like, what was it, digital compact cassette?

Are there any cd/radios around with the facility to record onto memory card? Seems to me there ought to be if they're killing off the cassette.

The humble Cheque is on its way out too. Many of the big high street stores don't accept them any more.

I feel old all of a sudden.
