SV650s restrictor, where is it?

Hi there ,

This is my first post as a new SV owner, well near owner as I pick it up on Saturday.

This is from ebay and the lad claims he had a restrictor put on to limit it to 33bhp.... why , who knows I think he probably though he could ride as a learner leagaly (wrong) anyway does anyone know if this is a mechanical restrictor, restricting air and fuel intake or would it be electronic .

Once I know what I'm looking for I can rip the thing off and enjoy the glory of double the bhp

Any advice would be helpfull.

im led to belive its 2 little washers in the carbs on a curvy?

Depends if it's curvy or pointy, think the curvy restrictor is in the intake, the pointy a different ECU, someone who knows more will be along shortly. And welcome!

Pointy or Curvey. Oh and thats illegal and will invalidate your insurance if you don't have a full licence.

Yeh not sure why he put it on I will ask when I pick up. I think he thought it was legal.

If it has been done properly, it's legal to ride a restricted SV whilst in the 2 year 33bhp max period. You could ride a restricted Hayabusa if you wanted, as long as it puts out no more than 33bhp.

if its pointy the ECU is all that needs changing (5 min plug and play job). its the oblong thing behind the battery.

make sure he gives you the full powere one it should end in 060, 33 end in 061. these are numbers stamped in the side.

I say get the original, as it wil be harder to come by a full power one second hand than it will be a 33bhp one. As no one just sells their full power one. would imagine getting one from a dealer will cost a bit?

not as a learner though, only one he had passed a test.
