Hi all,
Firstly thanks for the help a week or so ago about running. I've since got some new proper running shoes which have helped although I am still getting pain. I havent been for a run for about three days to try and rest a bit but I'm getting similar pains in my lower shin/ankle when I'm just walking. I NEED to carry on the training as I am in the process of joining the Territorial Army but I realise that I may need to rest to aviod injury. Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. Andy |

Havent been to docs and guessed it may be shin splints. Dont really think docs can do much apart from tell me to rest (I may be wrong). Anyone had the same/similar, how did you get rid of it?

easily done if you're unfit, or running style is a little odd. make sure your heel lands properly and takes the weight

Ice it, and rub in IB gel.
Also, don't overdo things - reduce the intensity. |

I think you need to take as much rest as possible if you are just starting up/returning to running. Go to a sports injury clinic if necessary, although they can be pricey, they will have seen your type of injury before or find a good shop dedicated to runners and seek their advice , even take in your old shoes so they can look at the tread wear pattern. One thing about running is that it puts enormous streses on your lower limbs so take it easy and run/walk when you feel like it , it will pay dividends in the long run ( forgive the pun )

It may be that you have an odd gait. Get yourself booked with the physio to haveit checked out, a lot of this stuff can be resolved with custom insoles to correct the position of the foot.

rest it and go for a swim or cycle instead, i know blandford and know there are plenty of hills around there to keep the heart rate up.
give it a couple of weeks. then make sure you stretch before and after a run. |
