Default Knox back protector - too big, are they exchangable?

So i bought a Knox Stowaway at the NEC show in November, and this was from a Knox stand and fitted by a Knox salesperson. But now I come to actually use it in anger, 4 months later, it's too big! Whenever I'm wearing it, it stops me turning my head around, as it pokes up too high under the jacket. It's really quite dangerous as I can literally only turn to look 90 degrees, even when trying to turn my body as well to cope with it. I've also tucked it into my trousers as far as it will go, thinking that may have been the issue.

So my question is, since it was fitted by Knox, can I get this changed for another size for free? Where would I go/call/whatever?

Btw when I had it fitted i took my jacket in to make sure it fitted with it, so that's not the issue.

Given the amount of time and place where it was aquired I'd say no, however you could always try writing to them or email and see what they say.

Cheers Mark.

ok, will try that - i'd be a bit annoyed if they refused since it's in as-new condition (worn once or twice) and it was Knox that fitted it to me and said it was ok

How tall are you?

I have the larger of the two sizes which I bought because that is supposed to be the correct size for my height (5'9) and whilst I think a smaller one would be more suitable I haven't had any problems with the big one.

Do you have the straps too tight so that they are pulling it up?

i'm about 5'8"/5'9" and i'm not sure what size it actually is! i don't have it to hand right now, it does seem to fit fine when i'm standing, but when i sit on the bike (and hence are crouched over slightly) it pokes up.

I don't think the straps are too tight (the guy showed me how to do it at the show) but i can take another look. Also i tried pushing it as far down as possible and it just naturally gravitates up (also it was halfway down my trousers at that point, lol).

Only thing i can think of is that when i sit on the bike i need to make sure i sit "on" the tail of it? since maybe it is pushing against the seat and pushing it up. But i didn't think it should be long enough that this would be the issue - that would sound too long to me...

I've emailed them now, so at least i'll know the answer if i do need to exchange/buy again

No I haven't had to sit on it.

I only tuck it into my trousers when I use my zip-together two-piece because the bridging material obviously does push it up.

But no it never comes up when sat on the bike. Is your jacket really loose or something?

Mine is size L.

I make sure the waist strap is pulled down as far as it will go, obviously have the straps crossed over too. But make sure they ain't too tight otherwise they will pull the waist strap up. My jacket always keeps it well contained. It can't come up over your shoulders because the jacket and your neck stops it so I can't figure out how it is restricting your ability to turn your head?!?!

If it is the full length one, you need to make sure it is pushed right down ... the bottom bit is supposed to cover your tail bone (coccyx) so yes, you will almost be sitting on it ... ... If it is not covering your coccyx then you are not getting the full protection it will offer

i'll have to give it another go and see if any of these tips helps before commenting much more i think.

My jacket isn't particularly loose - it does get stopped by the top of the jacket (not sure how your neck stops it??) but it's high enough up that when i go to turn my head the bottom of the helmet hits on the slightly raised jacket (raised obviously cos of the protector). maybe i have a really short neck!

one thing that i will be sure to check is how far down the waist strap is. I haven't really played much with the length of the shoulder straps - this may be the key to fixing it - since they were set by the guy at the show. I'll try adjusting these, and see if it helps - i always felt it wasn't the straps that were the problem though, i just felt the protector was too long and so it pushed up.

will let you all know how it goes tomorrow, when i get back home

My-Bad, I didn't pick that up from the original post, and kina assumed it was one like I have got ... which comes in a road and race version ...

here's a pic of a fitted stowaway from the Knox website ... it is not quite over his tailbone if you look (that ends roughly where your A-hole is (wow managed to use the term A-Hole in a serious bit of conversation!! )) ... but would you say that is where yours is positioned and STILL poking out the top??? or is the tailbone bit more round your waist?
