I'm off to France in 2 weeks but I'm not sure how big my petrol tank is
(I have a 99 model ) Yesterday the light came on at 13 litres ( about 155 miles) But I've not dared run it after this So can anyone tell me what the total size of the tank is please ? I'm taking a 2 litre can of petrol for emergencies as from previous experience we know that petrol stations in France close for lunch once you get off the autotoutes |

I think it is 17 litres, but I might be wrong.
155 miles before the petrol light????? Normally manage 125, but have had it down to about 105. You can go for miles after the petrol light comes on. |

Ta
I know I was amazed at getting such give mpg ! I'm sure when I first got the bike it was much worse - more like 120 - but it was winter and I think the cold has an effect That was a trip that didn't involve much motorway - lots of country roads |

I used to get about 140 miles before the light came on and then another 40 miles on reserve so if you're getting 155 miles you can guarantee there should be at least 40 miles worth of fuel left in the tank. HTH.

Sometimes you find supermarkets close for lunch (yes, well......) and the attached petrol station goes to (French) cards only, but it's relatively rare for main road stations to close for lunch. The vast majority of stations do close at lunch time Sundays, something to bear in mind when planning travel. I really wouldn't carry petrol cans, apart from any risks involved (and the ferries probably wouldn't like it anyway) you must surely have enough stuff to find space for without a can of fuel? Just plan ahead a bit, make sure you fuel up before 12 noon so you've got at least a couple of hours worth. Have fun anyway. ![]() ![]() |

Fair point Randy, but even though France is sparsely populated by UK standards, you're never that far from a conurbation of some sort.
Being truly far away from others isn't easy in France, or the UK, or most of Europe for that matter.
