Hey all looks like im going to be the owner of a new sv650s very soon and to get my insurance down i added that i had alphadot, now its no problem in buying it (£30 off ebay) but do i have to get it done by a proffecional as its only a matter of sprinkling the microdots on, we have a simalar thing for new trucks which we have in a small bottle and just use the brush to put it onto components, also will i need to send the certificate to the insurer?? thanks

Mine came alphadotted as new, but have never had to show anything to my insurance about it - don't think there is anything you could show... must look in the AlphaDot pack I got and check!

As far as I know all new Suzuki's are Alphadotted as standard. When I got mine the dealer gave me the rest of the bottle so I could mark more parts if I wanted to and there's a registration form to send off.
You won't have to send anything to your insurer but keep hold of the paperwork in case they ask for it. |

Mine was alphadotted from new, and in the paperwork that came with the bike was a registration card that had clearly had part torn off and sent off to register the details of the bike. I guess if the insurance co. wanted some proof they could ask to see the leftover bit of the registration card, but you would think they'd be able to check the alphadot databse themselves to see that your bike is indeed registered.

Insurers and police do indeed have access to the AlphaDot database to track the owner of a dotted item or to verify it's dottedness.

i think its a waste of time to be honest, look for the pink dot on a bike part and knock it off with a screwdriver. just my opinion.

When I bought my K3 SV secondhand I noticed the registration card for the Alphadot and tried contacting them to get the owner details changed as they were under the previous owner - couldn't get through to anyone and eventually rang Suzuki GB who said that they were unable to confirm the status of the company anymore! - ie: they were going down the pan or something.
I left it until earlier this year and found their website which looked as though it had been revamped - got their number and rang them and got through no problems and was able to change the user details for £15 - informed my insurer and all seems well - not sure if I actually got any discount for it though! |

Fair point but if you deliberatly choose really awkward place to dot it makes life harder for the pondlife. They see the Alphadot sticker and know they'll have to examine every part of bike before selling or risk being traced.
