Default "You have ten minutes to get out"

Fireman banging on all the doors on my street at 2am last night, I opened the window and he said "there is a 2 foot surge coming down the river due in about ten minutes. Get your stuff and go to the station where a bus will evacuate you to the Kassam Stadium". Bit of a shock.
We were already on Severe Flood Warning so the sandbags are in place and the furniture is moved upstairs. So we got out of the house but hung around and watched for three hours. The Thames was about 3 inches higher, highest it's been so far, but no surge came. Went back to bed at 5. I am very tired now, and getting annoyed with this river.

Yep, it is good news! But I have had no sleep, and so I made my sadnwiches for work and then left without them! I had also only eaten three mini spring rolls as a dinner cos I was kept away form my house, so I am in a bit of a state at work!

hopefully you can have a rest when you get in, look out of your window and watch the river flow by.

Good job there isn't a spring tide or London would be floating away. Some good the Thames barrier is when the threat comes from the other direction...I suppose global warming will be blamed even though floods like this have occured regularly in the past!
I see in the news certain dates mentioned where the midlands were under water but none mention the late 1970's when I used to travel by train up from London to visit my parents amd water stretched as far as the eye could see, with just trees and buildings poking through. This happened several years with I think Leicestershire being the worst hit area.

Look back at the UK's turbulent past even before global warming would be having an impact!
