Hello gang,
My friend (not me honest!) put diesel in his gpz by mistake. I don't know if he tried to start it or not, but he realised his mistake, drained the tank, but it wouldn't start. He now tells me he has drained the carbs 8 times but it still won't fire with new petrol in (it does turn over). Any ideas what to do? Are the spark plugs bust or something? Cheers |

Might be worth whipping the plugs out and giving them a good clean. If he's not started it the diesel wouldn't have got that far through the system though.
Is petrol getting too thr carbs? |

Right, I'm gonna put my hand up and admit to being an idiot. It was me. my excuse is that I do a lot of miles in a diesel and was very tired after work on Monday - still stupid i know (Im just glad it wasnt my SV or I'd have been really p&!£$d). i did drive off and it died about a miles down the road. emptied the tank and drained the carbs. Think I'll try and get the plugs out and clean them next. hopefully no lasting damage. I'll let you know how it goes. Apparently some people use diesel to de-coke engines, so my fingers are crossed that it's ok.

When my sister did this with her car, after draining the tank and running petrol through the system I turned it over a couple of times with the plugs out to make sure the pots were clear.
Started pretty much straight away after that. . |

Have done this with the SV myself, didnt start it and had to taken home, drained tank and filled with proper unleaded, started ok But backfired a bit and was a bit smokey for a couple of hours. Actually ran better for a few weeks afterwards.

She lives! cleaned out the entire fuel system and let it all dry off over night. put in some fresh juice and jumped her off the car battery for a bit of extra oomph. Well at least I know know that GPZ's definatly don't run on diesel - shame, just imagine the mpg you'd get.
