Default How to scilence your Akra

Because I want to do some trackdays now and in the future, I have to scilence my lovely Akrapovic full system. I know it's a shame for me and you who has to listen to the music that is comming from my auspuff, but I don't want to get pull a side while enjoying my ride, because of the stupid dB-limits...

This is what I did: I e-mailed at the BeNeLux import and told my problem. They said there is a dB-killer that will suit but not perfect, because the end of my can isn't calibrated, which the non "Not for road use" are. But no problem for me because I bought this little thingy... (I don't even know the proper word in Dutch, so don't ask me..)

... and drilled the hole of the auspuff. Only 0.2-0.3mm was enough to let it slide in!
Also I bought mysef a new tin-coated drill to drill the hole for the screw because titanium is hard to drill and this is the result:

The blue thing is to protect the exhaust if I would make a small crash...

Now I only can hear the sound of the intake, which is stil "quiet" nice, but I can do my trackday tomorrow.

Cheers.

ps: did I mension that I have pouwdercoated the rear wheel to suit my black R1 front wheel?

What are the DB limits?

Oh and I don't think that blue thing will do much if anything ... it is in the wrong place for a starter!! … being the shape it is, it might actually make things worse!!

You can buy can covers from R&G if you are that worried … or just buy yourself a pre-damaged trackday can

Neat job what you have done with the baffle though

What he said. It's the leading edge of cans that touch first in a crash usually.

Hey, I'm not stupid.
I've put one at both ends (as you can see in my avatar) and I am sure it will help when I make a small crash. Last time I crashed, the crash made a hole in my can by sliding over the asfalt. When I make a small crash next time this will prevent it. I've seen it befor, mostly on supermotards, sow it will do something...

As for my trackday, I did a 1:55

There is a dB-limit of 95 dB and I didn't get black flag! Mission accomplished...

See that strap on the back... If that was mine, I'd try and move it a little further back, it won't fix so well there but where it is it's only over the sleeve so it might crease it, whereas right at the back it'd be over the lip of the endcap as well, far stronger. What I use is a big exhaust hanger strap made of that silicon rubber, bought from Halfords for a couple of quid, which I wrap right round the can and secure with hose clips- I can't see any way it'd cause damage or fall off. Even uglier, of course, but if you were me you'd fit all the crash protection you could too

The R&G front protector is great, very ugly though... I think they're seen as often covering end can damage as they are preventing it
