Default New owner, first problem!

Hello all, Just picked up a 2001 SV650 this morning, the wifes first proper bike after riding a GPZ500 for the first year after passing her test.
It needs a little TLC, going to strip it down over winter, and rebuild it.
First thing is the speedo doesn`t work.
Is this a common fault with these bikes, anything to check first, or is it just a case of replacing the cable?
I`m more used to working on Yamaha`s, currently own a YZF750 with a FZR1000 motor in it, though thats up for sale as i have a new project for winter time, another YZF/OWo1 special.
And where do you all reccommend for Suzuki spares? Cheers all.

It's not a cable it's a sensor and if it's knackered it's mucho dinero for a new one.
Whip the front wheel off and check if the plastic splines aren't toast.

Add a location to your profile so peeps can help you out with local knowledge regarding Suzuki spares.

And Welcome

hello and welcome-when you take the front wheel off, take a look at the speedo sender-inside it you will see the rotor with four raised bits-they can break off and the speedo stops working-i'm waiting on a replacement coming from powersports.co.uk think the rotors about £5.

If you are in need of any other spares check out svspares.com I've used them a couple of times and their service is excellent. I've got a couple of curvy panels and other bits and bobs if you need them.

Hellooooooooooo!

This is a good site for finding part numbers
http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm

If you then put the part number into Robinson's part search, it'll give you some idea of what you can expect to pay for a new part from a dealer.
http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/sh...rts/index.html

We've used Robinson's a few times for new parts, and they've always been very good. Delevery within a couple of days if we order online.

I would check the connector too, some people disconnect them to cheat the mileage.
