Default How to remove a slotted screw.

With a screwdriver ya dope!

Fair enough but these screws have slots that are 20mm and 15mm long respectively and should be reinstalled to a specified torque - don't sound like any screwdriver I've got in my tool kit. The fasteners in question are marked 7 (timing inspection cap) and 8 (crankshaft cover) in this picture.

It's Mrs Tiger's CBR125 and I thought I'd take a punt here rather than join a CBR forum for one daft question. What do we think, specialist Honda tool required or have at it with a crowbar while she's out with the girls?

have you tried your local honda dealer? If you have a good one that is. I wouldn't imagine it is a specialist tool, are they metal or plastic? If they are just inspection covers are you sure they have a torque setting?

File something suitable to the relevant shape, (ie radius - the bottom of the tool recesses are usually not flat), and thickness.

I've got a couple of these that I filed into the ends of 'C' spanners, I used them only because the radius was about right to start with and they were a dab thicker than the slots were wide, so they are a good fit after a teeny rub with a file.
Turn with whatever seems suitable - in the case of mine that's a pair of locking grips.

I don't really get on with the the local Honda guy, he insulted me in 1989... They're metal right enough though and the torque setting is in the gospel according to Haynes. Only 5/6 Nm though so I'd just do em up normal tight.

Good spot, the bottom of the recess isn't flat and now you mention it, there's an odd C spanner type thing in the tool kit that just might fit the bill.

******** to the pub after work lads, I'm going home to look at my wife's tool kit!

Thanks again.

Morning all.

Top tip from Sid there folks! Good old 'c' spanners have more uses than just their intended one.
I too have several that have been 'modified' for a different application.

Cheers.
