They are really hard those two. Wondering up and down the train looking for a suitable victim. Shame what they did to the poor bloke won't happen to them in jail. And for those that did nothing on the train

Whilst its really easy to say you'd help when you're not there.....yes i would help.

IMHO its worse that people stood by and watched than the actual attack.

We'd all say 'I would help', and with the best intentions most of us would. But it would go through your mind, what if they had a knife or a gun. I would say the same as everyone else, course I'd help... but how many of us would if it came to it?

A few months ago I was on a quiet train and two large yoofs were busy vandalising/spraying up the inside. There were three of us in the carriage (me + 2 guys, travelling separately) but we weren't gonna do anything, and neither did any of us call the police as aforementioned yoofs were pretty intimidating. I hate to say it but TBH i can't see it having been that different if someone was at the recieving end either.

Now i have the excuse that i'm a girl, but you'd have to be a pretty big bloke or have some martial arts training or something to be willing to take on 2 guys who are already beating the **** out of someone for no reason, esp in London where a lot of them carry knives.

Now maybe it's different if a few of you can group together and go for them, but on your own? and don't underestimate how shocking/threatening that sort of situation is - i also saw someone get their face punched in in broad daylight nr Leicester Sq, but noone helped there either, partly because it all happened too quick for anyone to intervene.

i agree that it's really sad that people didn't help, but it's not always as easy as saying yes i'd step in

You have a point there i was bullied as a child because of my mothers sexuallity so she took me to kick boxing lessons so i could learn to look after my self . When ever i see some one being bullied now it makes me mad and i always try and help but i have had a few close shaves doing it .

Now that I would watch happen because things can be repaired etc and nothing ie belongings etc are worth getting hurt over
But yes I would step in, don't mean I have to fight them off, the first thing I would do is press the emergency button, that I think would atleast make them stop hitting him

I'm with Fizzy on this one.

As a bloke, and a fairly intimidating one when i wanna be, who has done martial arts too i'd still be worried about being attacked by 2 thuggs with knives.
Now if i had a heavy blunt object at hand like the fire extinguisher from the carriage or something then hell yeh i'd get stuck in.

But you really cant criticise those who were on the train and feared for their own safety for not getting involved.

How many sad stories do we see in the press about peeps doing the right thing and ending up hurt or dead becasue of it? Those are always the 1st things to go thru the head of your "average" commuter and i can understand why they dont wade in.
I dont agree or disagree that they didnt get stuck in to help, i just understand why they didnt.

Saying all that, that sort of scum IMO should be locked up for such a long time and its up to the courts to do that an make an example of them. Make it clear that attacking people like this will get you 10-15yrs and make them do that time and i'm sure less of these thugs would carry on this way. Its not like the CCTV or the current threat of prisons is working is it?
