Default FI warning on Euro fuel

Got back from 3200 miles around Spain, France etc. Halfway through FI indicator pops on one morning along with the alternating temp / FI. Start it up, coughs splutters have to rev it to stop stalling for around 20 seconds. Then magically the warning goes out and it'll doesn't want to stall.

This happened every morning for the rest of the trip, tried putting in 98 RON, no difference.

Got back to the UK, put in a tank full, hasn't happened since.

Anybody else had this, is it something to do with additives put in here to clean stuff out that they don't use on the continent?

Just wondering.

i dont think its RON, because I am in the US, (which has lower RON all round I believe) and I often put the lowest octane into it with no ill effects...

Very odd though.

Could it be the heat? Don't know what the weathers been like but maybe vapour lock or something?
That or being on the wrong side of the road upsetting it...

Nah, not heat either, I drive in the heat in NYC which is going to be as warm as anywhere in Europe.

I ride in the armpit of America (South Carolina) where it is 94 degrees F in September with high humidity...sweat in uncomfortable places, but no problems like that.

They do change the fuel formulation for seasons though, i.e winter fuel is more volatile due to the additives in it

they do the average of RON and MON, we just use RON (which reads high)
(IIRC)

This one has me out of ideas, but if it was spluttering that tells me it wasn't burning right, maybe not volatile enough? Perhaps they have more stringent vapour emission laws over there?.
Or maybe you have a partially clogged injector and the fuel being very slightly different caused it?
Does you bike normally start ok from cold?

Morning all.
Continental petrol is pretty average I believe, (it's got too much garlic in it)
It was probably a combination of fuel quality, & the temperature.
There are no published specifications for any differences between UK bikes, & those in Frogland, but if carburettors are anything to go by, there may be slight differences in the fueling, as European bikes used to have slightly different jetting to those in the UK.
Now you're back in Blighty, I wouldn't worry about it, unless it happens over here. Just don't go there again!

Cheers.

All sounds reasonable to me. Probably wasn't the heat as it wasn't all that warm. I think it was probably the fuel quality, possibly combined with the injectors. I'll start to worry if it does it over here, other than that carry on as usual.
