Default MOT Regulation Question.

I have just bought a tail tidying undertray for my curvy from eBay, one of the ones that requires you to saw off the end of the original undertray as part of the fitting process, then you attatch the new undertray to the old one. Indicators and number plate mounting are not a problem but...

Is a motorbike required to have a rear number plate illuminating light fitted to it? I know if it has one it has to be working, but is it a must have in the first place?

Thanks

The plate has to be visible in darkness with no external light source,

it can be lit from the rear light , this isnt poss in most cases though, im pretty sure it doesnt have to have its own light source outright.

i know some chaps with streetfighters who altered the bottom of the rear light to fit in a clear glass window which shone white light on to the plate, that worked well , but it would have been a lot easier just to have a seperate light..

why do you ask??

i just neetley drilled three holes into the rear red lens cover and put leds pointing towards the numberplate, iluminates enough to not get any issues and nicley hidden.

When you remove the end, you also remove the mudgaurd and number plate light.

Have you got the same kind of undertray as me then, i.e, saw off and attatch to the old one? Got any pictures?

naa, i made my own out of sheet steel, its totaly flat from the rear light to halfway down the undertray and the numberplate is about 10cm back from the rear light.

Note the numberplate and not the rider.

Powerbronze make them and a few companies in the states make them too, they are usually around the £100 mark i think, and they come in black, it's quite a bit extra to specify a colour code. I got mine from eBay, £38 delivered, you might get one cheaper if you wait on an auction, i just used buy it now.

Google: SV650S Undertray......loads!!!
