Default Humility,a virtue or a pain?

A little bit of a hypothetical situation here and wondered what the good peeps of the ORG felt about it.

Just say you found yourself in a situation where you could splash out and treat yourself to one of life's nice little toys? Obviously it would be something not run of the mill and very possibly could attract a certain degree of attention.

The motivation to buy the "item" is purely because you fancy it and fortunately for you, the means to allow you to do so are available. Many would suggest, what is the problem then?

But it's like a lottery winner I suppose, all of a sudden you can splash out how you please, but then you start to think, how other people will be about it.

You may be a very humble person in reality and although you love the nice things in life, it does concern you if other people's perception of you suddenly changes.

Would humility be a problem for you in this kind of situation? Leading you to decide against your dream purchase? Selecting perhaps something a little more discreet?

I think it depends what it is?
Is this purchase going to change you in any way as a person?
and if you just want realise your dreams then other peeps perceptions will be only according to what they fancy not you.
you'll always find someone will not like what you have bought or will be jealous of it, others will only be too happy to borrow it if you are that kind

what are you buying btw?

Remember I said this is a hypothetical situation. But hell let's just suggest it's maybe a particular kind of car.

People will think what they want, if they have a problem with it then its theirs to deal with. If its friends you're worried about then if they're true friends it won't bother them.

Ooh I say, a good old northern boy response there!

Well let's push the envelope a touch further. "Hypothetically" we are maybe talking Italian motor car. Not of the prancing horse type nor of the more extreme futuristic type designs from other factories. Something with a more classical coupe kind of look,(but does have a Ferrari engine.)

Would that not make you stop and wonder whether it is a poor idea?

To feel humiliated by achieving and perhaps more importantly acting out your dreams would be a great shame. Your childhood dreams are a reflection of your personality from a time where environmental influence hasn’t lead you in to adhering to common misguided and jealous beliefs. By allowing how you feel about others viewing your lifestyle to take affect on the way you lead your life will only result in feeling unfulfilled in your own goals. Be it a smart car or a Mohawk, if it works for you enjoy it. Go on, buy the Maseratti

would it look ridiculas (sorry about spelling!) parked outside your house ... ie, council house with a ferrari outside would attract the old 'who does he think he is' thing and people may think you are getting above your station. Yes, f**k them and enjoy, but on the other hand will it make you unpopular and then unhappy and paranoid. Intresting one!

I personally would also struggle to enjoy it properly if I felt people were sneering at me, but I guess that is a weakness on my part In the ideal world you should be able to enjoy your good fortune, but this isnt necessarily how it would really feel
