Hi all got a k8 with CCC exhaust but just got hold of a k&n air filter was gonna fit this weekend but wondered if its gonna mess up the fuelling to much if i dont have a remap done? Dont wanna damage the engine, if i fit it will it be pretty obvious if its not running right?
Just so you know i havnt got the k&n for performance just gives me an excuse to go out and clean it every couple of weeks as i do a lot of miles and have loads of cleaner and oil for it already thanks |

No point in fitting a free'r flowing air filter if you are running with just a slip-on.

Do K+N do a "road" filter for the pointy which doesn't need a remap?
Filters are fine for more than 10k at a time unless you live in a desert or something.

How much does a standard filter cost compared with a K & N? I put a K & N in my car simply to save money. £13 a year for std filter or £35 for K & N for life. Had the car long enough now to for it to save me money.

Yeah makes sense that way if you're doing the mileage. My 2nd hand BMC was £15 ish.

I wouldn't say every couple of weeks, as you already have it it is worth a try to see how it runs. Beware though, if it is needed, there are a few companies out there that charge way to much for a remap and still manage to screw it up.

Well the place here want between £120-150 for it to be set up on a dyno using the yosh box, probaly will get round to having it done but dont wanna wreck the engine before that happens.
As the newer pointies have the lambda sensor i was sort of hoping that would stop it running far to lean. Oh and just if any1 wants to know i dont beleive the power commanders fit the newer SVs |

Sorry to jump in on your thread DANINPLYMOUTH but after much searching through other threads i have the same problem. I have a K6 running with standard pipes and a CCC can, I have raised the tank and will be fitting a SV1000 snorkel and a BMC Road filter this weekend.
Am i still ok to run standard Jets? When does rejetting/remapping really come into it? Only when you get a full system? Cheers J |

I've had my K6 fuelling altered twice now since fitting my Twin Renegades...
First was at Rhencullen in Hinckley, Leicestershire, about 2 years ago. This used a 'Yoshi-Box' or 'Yoshimura Box'. This was about £65 if I remember right and altered the fuelling up to 5% in areas where it was needed. This seemed fine, stopped the excessive backfiring (foot long flames out the back!), but didn't get get good economy, and it used to drink quite a bit of fuel and oil! Then a few months ago I had my cans shortened and had the ecu fully remapped at 'Hill Top Motors' in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire. Cost £300 for the twin cans to be shortened and for the ecu to be fully re-mapped for the new cans. Expensive, but VERY worth it. Its now better on fuel, doesn't drink as much fuel when cruising, and gives a small, but noticeable, amount of extra power! The Yoshi box did the job on the cheap, but if you can afford it a full ecu remap is a lot better ![]() |
