Default another question for the technology gods regarding HDD caddys

Someone on another forum pointed out HDD caddys (completely forgot about them from my geek days)... the only thing I'm unsure of is HDD measurements - when referring to HDD's by physical size, is a 3.5inch drive measured across the width? And the same for a 5.25inch drive? Just slightly baffled

3.5 inches refers to the width of the disk platters

Dude you must be using shedloads of data if you are having to resort to Caddy`s . We are on the verge of having cheap Terrabyte drives now , the days of measuring drives in Gigabytes are over , or does your system have an upper limit on drive size ?
