Cans - what difference do they make?

Hello everyone I am new to biking and have just bought a 08 plate SV650 non-faired. I was reading a review on the MCN website and they recommended certain items as the best top ten buys for the SV.

One of the items was a replacement can specifically the Scorpian can. Do they make a difference and if so how much and are they really worth the £100 to £600 they cost. Are there better alternatives that are more cost effective, e.g. sorting out the front forks first. Any comments would be appreciated.

Cans add more power (like 1-5 BHP some say they add more, you wont notice the differnce). For road they are mainly for noise and make the SV sound loooverly.

The more you spend the better the can (usually) scorpian are good mid range can. Carbon Can Company is a good low range can. Akraprovic are good hight range can.

tbh if ur a bit tight for money get a CCC, top can. With the baffles out they give a nice low rumble...

Cans make a huge difference, you'll notice your grin just keeps bigger and bigger after fitting one
Nothing wrong with the budget ones like Fuel, CCC, Beowulf...

Oh, and don't believe in what you read in MCN.

Got a Leo Vince on my k3,sounds well without baffles in.
Was only £240 bargain i thought,has made it feel a little quicker,
but that might be in my mind. Fitted k&n air filter think that made a difference,
But again could be in my mind!

Suzsv650 is right; they can theoretically add power, since they make the engine a bit more free-breathing. I havnt noticed a power increase since fitting my fuel exhaust (its one of the cheaper exhaust manufactures, but the quality is very good) but i did notice it cured a flat-spot I had at about 4500 rpm.

The important thing is the increase in volume. This makes you safer. Yes, it does officer, it does.

And it makes you grin more in tunnels at full throttle. And makes you giggle like a loon when going from 10,000 rpm down to 4000 rpm on the overrun (throttle shut) because the sound is just awesome.

Now lets get one thing straight - they dont increase noise; noise is unwanted sound. They increase the sound volume, they change the sound tone, they make you grin a mile wide

Oh, and they are generaly a bit slimmer and therefore look tidier. And they can be lighter (my fuel is lighter than the previous exhuast that was on there, a road-legal remus can)

Put one on your SV, you wont regret it. Also, get crash bungs, they are a good thing for when you have a numpty moment and drop your bike paddling about in a carpark or whatever. Taller screens are usefull too.

Not sure about proper power gains but; you lose **** loads of weight with them, they look **** loads better, the sound completes the bike.

Probably all in your head unless you got it jetted/re-mapped, in which case.... some of it will be in your head lol

No never had it re-mapped or anything.
So it is in my head like all the rest of the sh** in there!

lol get it re-mapped your prob running lean. a re-map should give you a few hp not much tho

Ive got a Carbon Can Co stainless can. Was about 120.00 and is decent quality, sounds nice too
